Today, we’re pleased to bring you the trailer for the supernatural thriller, The Veil. Directed by Phil Joanou (The Punisher: Dirty Laundry) and written by Robert Ben Garant (Jessabelle), the story takes place 25 years after a mass suicide conducted by a charismatic cult leader (Thomas Jane) and follows the lone survivor (Lily Rabe) who goes with a director (Jessica Alba) and her documentary crew to find out what really happened that day. What they discover goes beyond cult behavior and delves into the supernatural.
Joanou said in a statement:
“The film is more of a supernatural-mystery-thriller than it is straight-ahead horror. It’s a bit more narrative and character driven than you’ll typically find in the modern version of the genre. And that’s what initially attracted me to Ben Garant’s script: these flawed, vulnerable characters — each one of them carrying a secret — coming up against the Jim Morrison of cult leaders, all of them clashing with the massive tragedy of the past. The script really played with what you tend to expect from this world and offered up a uniquely haunting journey.”
Speaking as someone who went out of his way at Sundance last year to see movies about cults and cult behavior, The Veil definitely has an interesting hook, and it sounds like it’s worth checking out. There will be a world premiere screening on Monday February 1st at 7:30pm at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood benefitting the American Cinematheque with a Q&A; afterwards with the director. Tickets are available at the American Cinematheque website. The movie, which also stars Aleksa Palladino, Reid Scott, and Shannon Woodward, will be released on VOD everywhere on February 2nd.

Veil
A veil is an article of clothing or cloth hanging that is intended to cover some part of the head or face, or an object of some significance. It is especially associated with women and sacred objects.
One view is that as a religious item, it is intended to show honor to an object or space. The actual sociocultural, psychological, and sociosexual functions of veils have not been studied extensively but most likely include the maintenance of social distance and the communication of social status and cultural identity.
History
The first recorded instance of veiling for women is recorded in an Assyrian legal text from the 13th century BC, which restricted its use to noble women and forbade prostitutes and common women from adopting it. The Mycenaean Greek term 𐀀𐀢𐀒𐀺𐀒, a-pu-ko-wo-ko, possibly meaning "headband makers" or "craftsmen of horse veil", and written in Linear B syllabic script, is also attested since ca. 1300 BC. In ancient Greek the word for veil was καλύπτρα (kalyptra; Ionic Greek: καλύπτρη, kalyptrē; from the verb καλύπτω, kalyptō, "I cover") and is first attested in the works of Homer.

The Veil
The Veil is an American horror/suspense anthology television series produced in 1958 by Hal Roach Studios.
The series was hosted by Boris Karloff, who also acted in every episode but one, and was allegedly based upon real-life reports of supernatural happenings and the unexplained. Ten of the twelve episodes began and ended with Karloff standing in front of a roaring fireplace and inviting viewers to find out what lies "behind the veil."
Hailed by critics as "the greatest television series never seen" (according to DVD release publicity) The Veil was never broadcast. Troubles within the studio (and the collapse of a preliminary co-production arrangement with National Telefilm Associates) resulted in production being cancelled after only 10 episodes (an additional episode called "Jack the Ripper" had been produced by another studio and was acquired by the Roach Studios; Boris Karloff only introduces the episode). This was considered too few to justify sales to a network or to syndication. In the late 1960s, footage from several episodes was combined to make films that aired on late night television. Ten episodes were released to the public in their entirety for the first time in the 1990s and have subsequently been released on DVD by Something Weird Video. In 1999, "Lifting the Veil of Mystery," a Tom Weaver article on the making of the series (complete with episode guide), appeared in issue #29 of "Cult Movies" magazine.

Peter Gabriel
Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer-songwriter, musician and humanitarian activist who rose to fame as the original lead singer and flautist of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, Gabriel went on to a successful solo career, with "Solsbury Hill" his first single. His 1986 album, So, is his most commercially successful, and is certified triple platinum in the UK and five times platinum in the U.S. The album's biggest hit, "Sledgehammer", won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards, and it remains the most played music video in the history of MTV.
Gabriel has been a champion of world music for much of his career. He co-founded the WOMAD festival in 1982. He has continued to focus on producing and promoting world music through his Real World Records label. He has also pioneered digital distribution methods for music, co-founding OD2, one of the first online music download services. Gabriel has been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts. In 1980, he released the anti-apartheid single "Biko". He has participated in several human rights benefit concerts, including Amnesty International's Human Rights Now! tour in 1988, and co-founded the WITNESS human rights organisation in 1992. Gabriel developed The Elders with Richard Branson, which was launched by Nelson Mandela in 2007.

Black veil
In Roman Catholicism, a black veil is a symbol of the most complete renunciation of the world and adoption of a nun's life. On the appointed day the nun goes through all the ritual of the marriage ceremony, after a solemn mass at which all the inmates of the convent assist. She is dressed in bridal white with wreath and veil, and receives a wedding ring, as a "Bride of Christ". Afterwards she presides at a wedding breakfast, at which a bride-cake is cut. She thus bids adieu to all her friends, and having previously taken the white veil, the betrothal, she now assumes the black, and forever forswears the world and its pleasures. Her hair is cut short, and her bridal robes are exchanged for the sombre religious habit. Her wedding ring, however, she continues to wear, and it is buried with her.
In Lay circles, a triangle- or rectangle-shaped cloth or lace veil, also known as a mantilla, is worn by Catholic women while attending church Mass. This practice has fallen into decline since the 1960s among those who attend the revised rite of the Mass, but traditional Catholic women who attend the ancient Latin Mass still wear them.

Black Veil Brides
Black Veil Brides are an American rock band based in Hollywood, California. The group formed in 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio and is currently composed of Andy Biersack (lead vocals), Ashley Purdy (bass, backing vocals), Jake Pitts (lead guitar), Jinxx (rhythm guitar, violin) and Christian "CC" Coma (drums). Black Veil Brides are known for their use of black makeup, body paint, tight black studded clothing, and long hair, which were all inspired by Kiss' and Mötley Crüe's stage persona, as well as other 1980s glam metal acts.
History
Formation and early years (2006–2009)
The band was originally formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2006 by Andy Biersack. Eventually Andy relocated to Los Angeles, California. In early 2009 he formed a new band, using the current name Black Veil Brides, and signed with the independent label StandBy Records. The writing process for a tour and a record began immediately. In December 2009, the band embarked on their first US tour, titled "On Leather Wings".

Today, we’re pleased to bring you the trailer for the supernatural thriller, The Veil. Directed by Phil Joanou (The Punisher: Dirty Laundry) and written by Robert Ben Garant (Jessabelle), the story takes place 25 years after a mass suicide conducted by a charismatic cult leader (Thomas Jane) and follows the lone survivor (Lily Rabe) who goes with a director (Jessica Alba) and her documentary crew to find out what really happened that day. What they discover goes beyond cult behavior and delves into the supernatural. Joanou said in a statement: “The film is more of a supernatural-mystery-thriller than it is straight-ahead horror. It’s a bit more narrative and character driven than you’ll typically find in the modern version of the genre. And that’s what initially attracted me to Ben Garant’s script: these flawed, vulnerable characters — each one of them carrying a secret — coming up against the Jim Morrison of cult leaders, all of them clashing with the massive tragedy of the past. The script really played with what you tend to expect from this world and offered up a uniquely haunting journey.” Speaking as someone who went out of his way at Sundance last year to see movies about cults and cult behavior, The Veil definitely has an interesting hook, and it sounds like it’s worth checking out. There will be a world premiere screening on Monday February 1st at 7:30pm at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood benefitting the American Cinematheque with a Q&A; afterwards with the director. Tickets are available at the American Cinematheque website. The movie, which also stars Aleksa Palladino, Reid Scott, and Shannon Woodward, will be released on VOD everywhere on February 2nd. Today, we’re pleased to bring you the trailer for the supernatural thriller, The Veil. Directed by Phil Joanou (The Punisher: Dirty Laundry) and written by Robert Ben Garant (Jessabelle), the story takes place 25 years after a mass suicide conducted by a charismatic cult leader (Thomas Jane) and follows the lone survivor (Lily Rabe) who goes with a director (Jessica Alba) and her documentary crew to find out what really happened that day. What they discover goes beyond cult behavior and delves into the supernatural.
Joanou said in a statement:
“The film is more of a supernatural-mystery-thriller than it is straight-ahead horror. It’s a bit more narrative and character driven than you’ll typically find in the modern version of the genre. And that’s what initially attracted me to Ben Garant’s script: these flawed, vulnerable characters — each one of them carrying a secret — coming up against the Jim Morrison of cult leaders, all of them clashing with the massive tragedy of the past. The script really played with what you tend to expect from this world and offered up a uniquely haunting journey.”
Speaking as someone who went out of his way at Sundance last year to see movies about cults and cult behavior, The Veil definitely has an interesting hook, and it sounds like it’s worth checking out. There will be a world premiere screening on Monday February 1st at 7:30pm at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood benefitting the American Cinematheque with a Q&A; afterwards with the director. Tickets are available at the American Cinematheque website. The movie, which also stars Aleksa Palladino, Reid Scott, and Shannon Woodward, will be released on VOD everywhere on February 2nd.
