Andy Samuel Griffith (June 1, 1926 – July 3, 2012) was an American actor, television producer, Southern gospel singer, and writer. He was a Tony Award nominee for two roles, and gained prominence in the starring role in director Elia Kazan's film A Face in the Crowd (1957) before he became better known for his television roles, playing the lead character in the situation comedy, The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968), and in the legal drama, Matlock (1986–1995).
Griffith was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, the only child of Carl Lee Griffith and his wife, Geneva (Nunn). Griffith was born the same day (June 1, 1926) as motion picture icon Marilyn Monroe. As a baby, Griffith lived with relatives until his parents could afford to buy a home. With neither a crib nor a bed, he slept in dresser drawers for several months. In 1929, when Griffith was three, his father began working as a carpenter and purchased a home in Mount Airy's "blue-collar" south side.
Griffith grew up listening to music. By the time he entered school, he was well aware that he was from what many considered the "wrong side of the tracks". He was a shy student, but once he found a way to make his peers laugh, he began to come out of his shell and come into his own.
The Andy Griffith Show is an American sitcom first televised on CBS between October 3, 1960 and April 1, 1968. The show, a semi-spin-off from an episode of The Danny Thomas Show, stars Andy Griffith, who portrays the widowed sheriff of the fictional small community of Mayberry, North Carolina. His life is complicated by an inept, but well-meaning deputy, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), a spinster aunt and housekeeper, Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and a precocious young son, Opie (Ron Howard). Local ne'er-do-wells, bumbling pals, and temperamental girlfriends further complicate his life. Regarding the time-period of the show, Griffith said in a Today Show interview: "Well, though we never said it, and though it was shot in the 1960s, it had a feeling of the 1930s. It was, when we were doing it, of a time gone by."
The series never placed lower than seventh in the Nielsen ratings and ended its final season at number one. It has been ranked by TV Guide as the 9th-best and 13th-best show in American television history. Though neither Griffith nor the show won awards during its eight-season run, series co-stars Knotts and Bavier accumulated a combined total of six Emmy Awards. The series spawned its own spin-off, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964), a sequel series, Mayberry R.F.D. (1968), and a reunion telemovie, Return to Mayberry (1986). The Black and white reruns currently air on TV Land and Me-TV, while the complete series is available on DVD. All eight seasons also are now available by streaming video services such as Netflix. An annual festival celebrating the show, Mayberry Days, is held each year in Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina. The show's enduring popularity also has generated significant show-related merchandise.

Plot: '29th and Gay' is the movie for the gay everyman. Following a year in the life of James Sanchez, it's a story about a guy rapidly approaching thirty, who doesn't have a six-pack, full head of hair or a boyfriend. While his best friend Roxy, an actress-turned-activist, struggles with showing him there's life beyond the glitz of the disco ball, his other friend, Brandon, one of those gay boys comfortable in his own gay skin, works on getting James to at least talk to a boy. Feeling out of place in the world of circuit boys, caught between his Hispanic-American heritage and being gay, we watch James find his place in the world, realizing that life is in the journey, not the destination.

Andy Griffith is an American icon. In this video, we consider his performance in "A Face In The Crowd", where he plays a character that is completely antithetical to the role he's most known for.
One of the most moving and personal Andy Griffith / Don Knotts show with original commercial as aired. I of course as seen on my other videos had a horrible childhood of abuse, torture, murder, sexual abuse which my family has carried as much as possible up until today. This episode shows that even Andy and Barney's tears on their pillows bespeak the pain that is in their hearts, just like we all. Not the one I am most entertained by, but the episode I love the most from my2 Liberal best friends, Andy and Barney, who I never met.
Season three episode 30 of 'The Andy Griffith Show' titled "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs." Opie finds a stray dog, which soon brings others, until the courthouse is filled with a dozen dogs. The state is coming to audit them, and Barney and Andy have to think fast.
The Andy Griffith Show Season 6 Episode 30 A Singer in Town
When cultures clash, cars crash, and Andy's home becomes his castle as he engages the employment of a bicycle-touring Englishman who must work off an unfortunately-earned debt.

Andy Griffith does his comedic routine on "The Discovery of America", from 1962.
"What it Was, Was Football" is a monologue by comedian Andy Griffith. It was recorded in Raleigh, North Carolina for the Colonial label in 1953. Soon, Colonial had sold nearly 50,000 copies of the record and then sold the masters to Capitol Records. Capitol released the record in the same year, which soon had sold nearly 800,000 copies and was instrumental in launching Griffith's career in television, stage, and film. The record is still one of the biggest selling comedy records of all time. On the original single, the monologue is credited to "Deacon Andy Griffith." The monologue is a description of a college football game, as seen by a naive country preacher who attends the game by accident and is entirely puzzled by it. Griffith made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1954, in l...

Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
While shepherds kept their watching
Over silent flocks by night
Behold throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light
Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! above the earth
Rang out the angels chorus
That hailed the Savior's birth
Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born
And God sent us salvation
That bless
