Jimmy Kimmel joins #jacketgate

Viral video of Nine News presenter Amber Sherlock berating colleague Julie Snook has been made the butt of jokes by late night US TV host Jimmy Kimmel.

The audience responded with laughter.

"I know it's early but it could turn out to be clip of the year just there," Kimmel said.

"I don't know who decided to release this tape, but whoever it was, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"Get those women on The View immediately," he continued.

The leaked viral clip of the two Nine News journalists shows an uncomfortable off-air exchange where Sherlock demands Snook to put a jacket on after they both turn up to a broadcast wearing white.

"I need Julie to put a jacket on. I asked her before we came on… I told you two hours ago," said Sherlock.

Snook replied: "I'm flat out, I haven't had time."

Sherlock seems to have no sympathy for what Snook has to say, repeating that she "told [Snook] two hours ago."

Psychologist Sandy Rea also appeared in the broadcast wearing white but escaped the furious hits from Sherlock who only had eyes for Snook's attire.

The terse exchange continues for several more minutes until Snook finally returns wearing a black blazer over her white top.

In a statement made after the video was leaked, Sherlock admits that she "probably overreacted with the pressure of presenting a live news bulletin."

"Amber and I are good friends and I really enjoy working with her. News is a fast moving environment and sometimes these things just happen," Snook said in the statement.

When it comes to just how the footage came to be leaked, Nine is reportedly still hunting for the person responsible.

The footage was never meant to be seen.

Just a select few producers, camera operators, technicians and the poor woman invited as a guest should ever have witnessed that exchange.

This wasn't an occasion when the presenters didn't realise the ad break had finished.

This was an off-air exchange that was caught because the cameras never actually stop rolling and which was ripped by someone and leaked to Mumbrella

This is a calculated attempt to embarrass and undermine Sherlock.

And, given her effortless take-down of Snook (who manages to come off looking eloquent and professional despite Sherlock's best attempts to shake her), whoever leaked that footage should be quaking in their boots.

If you don't know who Amber Sherlock is, you wouldn't be alone.

A quick Google of her reveals she is something of a finance expert, providing those cheerful market updates from the Commonwealth Bank for Seven and Ten before moving over to Nine in 2007.

Presenting was clearly her career goal and before long she was doing Qantas' inflight news for Nine, before joining Weekend Today and more recently presenting Nine News Now.

A fairly regular career journey for someone with their sights set on a 6pm bulletin job.
