Man killed after car hits tree in Dandenong Ranges

A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree in Kallista, in the Dandenong Ranges.

It  is believed the car carrying two people struck trees and rolled on Emerald Road about 12.40am.

Victoria Police Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said a male passenger died at the scene.

"The male driver, aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with minor injuries," Senior Constable Parson said. 

The exact details surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.

The accident brings the total number of lives lost on Victoria's roads to eight, two more than this time last year.
