Nine News presenters wardrobe spat

Off air footage leaked to Mumbrella shows Nine journalists Amber Sherlock and Julie Snook have an awkward exchange over their choice of wardrobe.

In footage leaked to media industry publication Mumbrella, host Amber Sherlock waits during an ad break with two guests: sports reporter Julie Snook and psychologist Sandy Rea.

As Snook studies her notes, Sherlock begins: "I need Julie to put a jacket on, because we're all in white. I asked her before we came on. Julie, you need to put a jacket on."

Snook responds: "I'm flat out, I haven't had time."

Sherlock hits back: "Come on, I told you. I told you two hours ago."

The terse exchange continues as Rea - also in white - grimaces for several seconds, then offers to get a jacket herself. However, Sherlock says she's "fine".

Snook again says she's been "flat out", and Sherlock whips out her phone to call the Wardrobe department.

The exchange slowly fills with passive aggression, until Snook suggests she should leave instead of getting changed.

"If there's an issue I can just head on out and get back to work," Snook says, later repeating: "I'll just jump on out, honestly."

Sherlock responds: "Fine, jump on out if that's what you'd like to do."

Shortly after, a producer manages to find a jacket. The screen briefly goes black, and Snook reappears - now wearing a black blazer and adjusting her lapel microphone.

Around 15 seconds later, the show is back on air, and the Chat Room segment begins.

The rapid wardrobe change made for strange viewing on the afternoon bulletin.

At 3.43pm, Sherlock mentions the segment directly before an ad break. She introduces Snook - who is wearing her white shirt - and urges viewers to stick around.

Three minutes later, when the show returns, Snook is featuring the black jacket.

Despite Sherlock's emphatic suggestion for her colleague to get changed, there seemed to be no issue in a different segment, 15 minutes earlier. Sherlock spoke for several minutes to showbiz reporter Briana Domjen, who was wearing bright white overalls.

In a statement to Nine's lifestyle website Honey on Thursday, Sherlock said she "probably overreacted".

"Live TV can be a pretty stressful beast, at times," she said.

"As anyone knows, it's never much fun rocking up to work or to a party in the same outfit as one of your colleagues or friends. I probably overreacted with the pressure of presenting a live news bulletin."

For her part, Snook seemed to hold no grudges over the incident, joking the pair "just really love white".

"Amber and I are good friends and I really enjoy working with her," Snook said. "News is a fast-moving environment and sometimes these things happen."
