If federal LNP MP Andrew Laming's response to this teacher was a school report - it would have received a 'D'.
Teacher Katrina Crook decided to write to the member for Bowman following his Facebook post about whether teachers were 'lesson planning' from home.
But after being surprised by his short reply, littered with punctuation and other errors, Ms Crook marked it as she would one of her papers.
The Brisbane bayside MP incited a backlash on social media on Tuesday after questioning whether teachers had returned to work yet.
The comment sparked an immediate backlash, with hundreds of comments and 120 shares before being deleted and replaced with story about avoiding teacher burnout, which was also later deleted.
Ms Crook sent a lengthy email to Mr Laming, saying she read his comments about teachers on Facebook with distaste.
"The one thing that really distresses me more than anything else in my profession is the idea that people can constantly attack us as easy targets," Ms Crook wrote in her email.
"Teaching is not, and never has been, a 9-3 job.
"But back to your original point: "Are teachers working this week?". You bet your life we are. I can't think of a teacher alive who would want to walk into a classroom on that first day unprepared."
Mr Laming replied: Katrina Thanks for your detailed letter. I am a massive supporter of teaching, but love challenging stereotypes by posting awkward questions. Its designed only to promote discussion on the platform. Please dont infer any personal views. My job is to probe all community issues with open questions. Thats democracy, as is your right to be upset, which isnt the intention. andrew"
After receiving the eight-sentence response from Mr Laming, Ms Crook decided to put her well-honed marking skills to good use on his emailed reply.
Using what she described as a "stereotypical" red pen - Ms Crook does not usually use a red pen for marking - she gave the politician a 'D', fixing up his lack of apostrophes for contractions, suggesting different words for "awkward" questions (Stupid? Inane? Ridiculous?), pointing out proper nouns and suggesting a more formal tone of writing.
In her comments, Ms Crook said: "Andrew, you have made an attempt to write a letter but you aren't quite there yet... I would also have liked to see some more detail in your response given the original piece and your reason for reply. Perhaps an apology and detail of any follow up to redress this issue... More thought to the formalities of letter writing, punctuation, and your response may see an improvement in your grade."
Ms Crook posted the "marking" on her Facebook page, and also sent it to the MP.
Her Facebook post has received widespread support, including from people she did not know.
After being contacted by Fairfax Media, the teacher, who has 30 years' experience, said Mr Laming's response to her email shocked her.
"It was a very rapid response, I got it within half an hour," she said.
"I was actually expecting him to get back to me in a week and say, 'Dear Katrina, thanks for your response, I've taken it on board, Yours Andrew', which was my only expectation.
"I was floored to get that response and to really take no responsibility for what he said originally.
"He put it up for discussion but clearly he deleted it soon afterwards."
Ms Crook said she felt being a politician was an important job.
"So to get that sort of reply back... There's been no thought put into it, it's not a professional email, there's clearly no punctuation," she said.
Ms Crook said Mr Laming loved challenging stereotypes, but she questioned how a teacher was a stereotype.
"We're a profession, I'm really quite tired of people attacking teachers as a profession, we're incredibly hard working, I don't know a teacher out there who isn't working well beyond the 9 to 3."
The MP created a list of tips for members on how to interact with voters on Twitter and Facebook in 2011, including responding to insulting and personal comments via the inbox.
His advice was aimed at avoiding having an argument on the public wall.
Attempts were made to reach Mr Laming for comment.
