A 30-year-old Welsh mother gave birth to four babies in 11 months - but no, they're not quadruplets.

After welcoming her second daughter, Mya, in February 2015, Becky John decided she wanted to give her little girl a sibling close in age. Already mum to nine-year-old Kayla, Ms John and her partner, Jason Evans, started trying for "just one more baby".

And it all happened a lot sooner than they'd expected. Mya was just a few weeks old when the couple received the wonderful news that they were expecting once again.

This time, however, when they went for their scan, there was not one, not two, but three little heartbeats.

"I had to stare at the screen just to make sure for myself," Ms John told Barcroft Media. "And I counted the heartbeats one by one. It was true - I was actually pregnant with triplets."

Ms John explained that the babies were naturally conceived, each from a separate egg, "which is really rare".

"Doctors told us it was the healthiest way to have triplets, because they all had a placenta each, it meant there was no risks associated with any one of them sharing a placenta," she said.

The proud mum welcomed Ryan (2.15kg), Raya (1.9kg) and Phoebe (2.12kg) via caesarean section at 34 weeks, in February 2016.

"I was so huge by that time I could barely move, and doctors wanted to get them out in case I went into labour early - if I went into labour naturally, then it could increase the risk of things going wrong," Ms John said.

The babies arrived healthy and spent six weeks in NICU before being allowed home.

"I've had to get a four-seater pram because Mya had her first birthday when the triplets were only two weeks old. And its a bit of a squash in our house now, but its all worth it," Ms John said.

"It's lovely to think that Mya and the triplets will grow up so close in age."

And as for big sister Kayla? She, too, is "thrilled" with her new siblings.
