In 2009, five members of the Lin family were brutally killed as they slept in their Sydney home.
• Xie was formerly an ear nose and throat specialist, with knowledge of pressure points on the body. Asphyxia was a contributing cause of death in some of the victims.
• There was a massage device in Xie's home, which had similarities to the murder weapon, thought to be a hammer-like object covered in gauze.
• An inmate, known as Witness A, recalled a conversation in which Xie told him he had sedated his wife on the night of the murders.
• Gel Evation ASICS sports shoes were one of three possible shoes that could have left 20 bloody shoe prints in the Lin house. Xie wore ASICS sports shoes.

• The court heard that Xie liked to sleep in on Saturdays, yet he was up very early cleaning his garage on the morning of July 18, 2009.
• A small "transfer" stain found in Xie's garage was allegedly a mixture of blood of at least four victims.

• He was recorded telling Witness A he didn't want to be the person to discover the bodies because that would make him the "prime suspect", but circumstances meant he was with Kathy when she found the bodies of her family.
• He made no attempt to check if the children were alive, despite his medical training.
• He left a distraught Kathy Lin at her brother's house on the morning of the murders, at a time when they could not have known if there was a killer nearby.
• Xie told Witness A he was worried about CCTV footage revealing he drove from North Epping to Merrylands the morning the bodies were discovered.
• He destroyed shoe boxes when he learnt police had matched shoe prints in the Lin house to ASICS sneakers.
• In conversations with Witness A - both recorded and not - Xie revealed his true feelings about the Lin family, who he spoke of in disparaging terms.
• Xie had arranged to get another key to the Lin's house cut to plant at an innocent person's house.
