Azerbaijanis (/ˌæzərbaɪˈdʒɑːniz/; Azerbaijani: Azərbaycanlılar آذربایجانلیلار) or Azeris (Azerbaijani: Azərilər آذریلر), also known as Azerbaijani Turks (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Türkləri آذربایجان تورکلری), are a Turkicethnic group living mainly in Iranian Azerbaijan and the independent Republic of Azerbaijan and they speak Azerbaijani language, a Turkic language. They are the second most numerous ethnic group among the Turkic peoples after Anatolian Turks. They are predominantly Shi'i Muslims, and have a mixed cultural heritage, including Iranian,Turkic and Caucasian elements. They comprise the largest ethnic group in Republic of Azerbaijan and by far the second-largest ethnic group in neighbouring Iran. The world's largest number of ethnic Azerbaijanis furthermore live in Iran followed by the Azerbaijan Republic.
Following the Russo-Persian Wars of 1804–13 and 1826–28, the territories of the Iranian Qajar dynasty in the Caucasus were forcefully ceded to the Russian Empire and the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813 and the Treaty of Turkmenchay in 1828 finalized the borders between the Russian Empire and Qajar Iran. The areas to the north of the river Aras, including the territory of the contemporary Republic of Azerbaijan, were Iranian territory until they were occupied by Russia over the course of the 19th century. The Russo-Persian Wars of the 19th century settled the modern-day boundary of Iran, stripping it of all its Caucasian territories and incorporating them into the Russian Empire. The eventual formation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 established the territory of modern Azerbaijan.

1,065 Armenians voted for the Azerbaijani team, apparently without consequence. An Azeri man said Tuesday he had been asked by the authorities to explain why he voted for the entry of arch-rival Armenia in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Forty-three Azeris voted for the song "Jan Jan" by Armenian duo Inga and Anush in the May contest, despite lingering animosity between Muslim Azeris and Christian Armenians stemming from a war over the mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the early 1990s. A representative of Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry confirmed voters were questioned, but declined further comment. Rovshan Nasirli, a resident of the Azeri capital Baku, told Reuters he was asked about his vote by authorities in the tightly-run Caucasus state last week. "...
Flight 5094 can't get here fast enough
Lord, and leave this winter behind
I've got my shades on waitin in the concourse
And I'm ready to fly
To...
A sweet kind of summer standin' knee deep in the water
Drinkin' straight tequila and lime
Got my arm around a lady, and a red cup in a koozie
Cruisin' on Key West time
Sweet kind of summer
I told the cabbie man, take me to the sand
In this place called paradise
I've got a line that needs baitin' and a senorita waitin'
When the full moon fills up the sky
Sweet kind of summer standin' knee deep in the water
Drinkin' straight tequila and lime
Got my arm around a lady, and a red cup in a koozie
Cruisin' on Key West time
Sweet kind of summer
Left my phone on the mainland, don't wanna be found
I just wanna get down in a pirate town
In a sweet kind of summer standing knee deep in the water
Sippin coconut rum on ice
Got another drink waitin'
And the radio station's playin'
"No Woman, No Cry"
Sweet kind of summer standin' knee deep in the water
Drinkin' straight tequila and lime
Got my arm around my baby, and a red cup in a koozie
Cruisin' on Key West time
