How to pipe icing and decorate a cake
Write messages and create beautiful designs on your next cake using these inexpensive tools.
Large and small star/fluted nozzles
Ideal for creating stars, rosettes, swirls or decorative lines.
Grass nozzle
A piping nozzle with multiple small holes available from specialty cake decorating stores. Use a grass nozzle with lots of holes to create grass, fur or hair on children’s’ birthday cakes. Stop pushing on the bag as you lift up for the neatest finish.
Shell nozzle
For creating decorative borders.
Thin writing nozzle
For writing words or numbers.
Pre-made decorations
Edible flowers, animals and baby-themed icing cake toppers are available from major supermarkets, kitchenware and cake decorating stores.
Piping bags
Available in a variety of sizes. When piping thin lines, you could also use a snap-lock bag with the corner cut off or a piece of baking paper folded into a cone shape and stapled (don't use a nozzle).
