Americans United works for church-state separation in a variety of venues. We are active in the courts and in Congress and the state legislatures, and we organize at the local level.
Legal
We urge public officials to comply with the mandates of the Constitution, and we file lawsuits when necessary. Find out more about our legal work, and let us know if you learn of church-state violations.
Legislative
We defend religious liberty in Congress and the state legislatures. We provide expert testimony about bills, and we encourage all citizens to contact their representatives when church-state principles are at stake.
Grassroots
Grassroots activism is essential. We organize chapters, engage the religious community, work with students and join forces with aligned groups.
Project Fair Play
Houses of worship are free to address religious, moral and public issues, but they may not endorse candidates for public office. Religion and partisan politics should not mix.
