Peter Rabbit: Wet weather sets scene in Centennial Park for Beatrix Potter movie

It looks like the English weather has arrived just in time for the new Peter Rabbit movie that is being shot in Sydney over summer. Film crews decked out in yellow Mackintoshs have been spotted in Sydney's Centennial Park constructing quaint Tudor-style houses.

Margot Robbie, Rose Byrne and James Corden are set to star in the film, which is based on Beatrix Potter's classic children's books set in the English countryside. The book series has sold more than 150 million copies in 35 languages since it was first published in 1902.

Blockbusters heading to Australia in 2017

The number of celebrities making their way to our shores next year means it will be a very big year for Australian produced film.

Early pictures of the set show cottages made of wood, cobblestones and white bricks forming a miniature town. Centennial Park's lush greenery has both open fields and wooded areas, providing the perfect setting for the story.

The movie will be produced by Australian-based animation company Animal Logic, which created the recent smash hit The Lego Movie.

Production is set to start in January, for release in 2018.
