According to Google Trends, last year's most Googled beauty question was, "How to do a fishtail braid?". Does this surprise you? It did us, as the degree of difficulty is high. The remaining nine were a bit more predictable.
Here is the solution to every question to look fab as we continue into 2017.
1. How to make hair grow faster?
Take a vitamin supplement that contains antioxidants and Vitamin B to help strengthen hair. The Kardashians have been avid endorsers of growth products and according to Kim Karadashian's dermatologist, LA-based Dr Harold Lancer supplements like biotin or caffeine-based products can help boost hair and nail growth. And the big buzzword from the hair gurus is hair care range Viviscal. Every celebrity I have spoken to swears by it. There are other beauty routines you can follow such as making diet adjustments, massaging your scalp, loosening tight hair bands and visiting the hairdresser for a regular trim.
2. How to shape eyebrows?
There is only one answer to this – get it done professionally.
3. How to curl hair?
Our latest curling iron discovery comes directly from the mouths of beauty editors, GHD Classic Curve Wand. It has a unique oval shaped barrel and the trick is (after drying hair and applying a protective spray), to hold the wand so the flat shape of the barrel is parallel to your face. Take small sections of hair and wind them over and under the barrel; then hold the ends with your fingers for five to seven seconds.
4. How to remove gel nails?
I have been guilty of peeling these suckers off too many times and have suffered the consequences with dry, peeling, damaged nails, so repeat after me, "I will not peel off my own gel nails." If you don't want to have the gels professionally removed here is a guide to DIY removal at home. First you need to protect the skin around the nail with a preventative layer of Vaseline, as this removal involves acetone. Next, use a dedicated gel removal kit like Ciate Geltox Detox. This kit comes equipped with two rolls of cotton-lined nail tapes, which wrap around each finger. To restore moisture to your nails post removal, make sure to apply cuticle oil.
5. How to clean makeup brushes?
Step one for keeping your brushes clean is spritzing them with a daily brush cleaner after you have used them. Once a week, it's time for a proper bath for them. Run your brush bristles under luke warm water first to rinse out residue. Next, fill a shallow bowl with lukewarm water and a squirt of baby shampoo, and gently swirl your brush tip in the water. Then rinse the bristles well. Finally use a lint-free cloth to remove excess water and debris, then lay the brushes flat to dry.
6. How to apply concealer?
We were all bamboozled by the art of concealer in 2016, so Google became a stop for millions questioning the correct way to use it. Applying concealer after foundation stops you from blending all the concealer away, and can help you use less concealer.
7. How to get rid of bags under your eyes?
Puffy eyes respond well to the antioxidants in green tea. So steep two green tea bags in hot water, squeeze out the excess water and let them cool. Next place a cool damp cloth on top and rest for five to ten minutes. If you need a quick fix try an eye product with caffeine.
8. How to fill in eyebrows?
Invest in a brow kit. Use a brow pencil and lightly draw in hair like strokes. Then take an angled brow brush and a similarly-coloured pressed powder to define the shape of your brows even more. To finish, brush through with a spoolie brush (it looks a bit like a naked mascara wand) to soften any harsh lines.
9. What is balayage?
Balayage is a French free form colouring technique that was developed in the seventies, along with all good things. The colour is applied by hand rather than using traditional foiling. It leaves hair with a sunkissed look.
