Sydney's top gigs: Naked and Famous, Booka Shade, Moose Blood, UB40, Dinosaur jr
THE NAKED AND FAMOUS
Saturday, January 7, the Metro, ticketek.com.au
It's been nearly three years since the Kiwi electro-pop upstarts last played their own club shows in Sydney, so there will be plenty of fans eager to catch up with the five-piece this weekend – even more so because they bring with them their newly released third album, Simple Forms. Tickets for this one Sydney show are $54.90.
BOOKA SHADE
Friday, January 6, the Metro, ticketek.com.au
The German production veterans have had a huge impact on the worldwide electronic scene since their breakthrough with 2004's Memento. They're just as relevant today, as shown by their inclusion on big festival line-ups including Coachella and the recent Falls Festival. They swap the outdoor tents for the Metro stage with this one Sydney gig. Tickets are $61.
MOOSE BLOOD
Saturday, January 7, Oxford Art Factory, oxfordartfactory.com
Fresh from a run in August with Tassie punk-rockers Luca Brasi, emotive Brits Moose Blood return to these shores for their own headline shows. Judging by the feverish response to their support sets last time, the band can expect to feel very welcome back here. Tickets are $31.70.
DINOSAUR JR
Thursday, January 12, the Metro, ticketek.com.au
If there was any doubt whether Dinosaur Jr still had what it takes, the reunited team of J Mascis and Lou Barlow put that to bed last August with the impressive new album Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. It's their 11th studio album, so the band will have a hard time cherry-picking their back-catalogue for this one raucous Sydney show. Tickets available for $66.30.
UB40
Thursday, January 12, Enmore Theatre, ticketek.com.au
Original UB40 members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virture got the band back together about three years ago, and have been making up for lost time with non-stop world tours. So raise a glass of red, red wine and catch all the faves at their Sydney gig. Tickets start at $99.
