Fan reaction to the Globes
Across Twitter the majority of people focused on Meryl Streep's speech, with many applauding what she had to say. Although a few were not so happy.
"Her artistry reminds us of the impact of what it means to be an artist, which is to make us feel less alone" #MerylStreep #GoldenGlobes
— Maria Bartolotta (@MarBarItaliano) January 9, 2017
#MerylStreep speech was not the right time nor the right place to give it, don't bring politics into award ceremonies #GoldenGlobes
— Matthew Dionisio (@matt_dionisio) January 9, 2017
Meryl Streep's speech drove me to tears. It was so inspirational and we should all take it to heart. #MerylStreep #GoldenGlobes

It really says a lot when conservatives are more upset about #MerylStreep speaking about empathy at the #GoldenGlobes than Russian hacking.

#MerylStreep your speech was breathtakingly beautiful & well delivered that I cant shake it's beauty & importance. #ThankYou #GoldenGlobes

Someone FINALLY used their platform ON STAGE at the #GoldenGlobes - he's a bully and gives others permission to be bullies too.

There is no denying it ... the night was all about Meryl!
Thank you Meryl Streep for reminding us of the Artist's Way at tonight's #GoldenGlobes. You are truly one of the best ever.
— Chadwick Boseman (@chadwickboseman) January 9, 2017
Naww, it is nice to see the love coming from within the industry for their own. Especially from a pair of Brits like Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie!
Whoop! Entirely deserved win for m'colleague @hughlaurie #GoldenGlobes Gotta love that upper lip pic.twitter.com/fx7gyq20hw

Congratulations were in order...

For La La Land fans, who can't get enough of these awards - Emma Stone can pull off cute in any situation.

That's a wrap
Well folks, so concludes the awards with a host who we believe has been Jimmy Fallon, but who you could easily mistake for a valet after being fairly innocuous post his opening musical spoof among the limousines.
Stand-out moments have to be:
- The heart and soul behind Ryan Gosling, Tom Hiddleston and Meryl Streep's speeches.
- Fallon's awkward teleprompter fail.
- Sofia Vergara's "anal" slip-up, although purposeful certainly woke viewers up.
- Tracee Ellis Ross for her "women of colour" speech.
- And Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield's pash.
Aussies denied, again
Lion and Hacksaw Ridge leave empty-handed. Who saw Moonlight coming?
"If you have seen this film all I say is please, tell a friend, tell a friend, tell a friend. Much love." - Moonlight director Barry Jenkins.
And the #GoldenGlobes Best Motion Picture - Drama winner is... @moonlightmov! Congratulations! pic.twitter.com/mjKxyYNFco

Even Casey Affleck has noticed how brutal the awards are for getting the speeches over with, "You're going to run me off so I better talk quickly!"
He dedicates his Globe to co-star Michelle Williams, "This is all because of you and there really is no award for just one actor, I wish Michelle could be on stage with me."
"Denzel [Washington] told me God is love and I agree with this." (He gets the thumbs up from DW)
La La Land sets record

It may just be me but maybe the Globes are sick of La La Land winning too as they crank up the play-off music during the acceptance speeches before they got too political. (Meryl beat you to the punch guys)
This is brutal!
Back to topJimmy Fallon's best moment, possibly, in a series of forgetable moments: riffing off Cypress Hill's Insane in the Membrane with "Chastain and the Redmayne".
Sunday January 8th, 2017. The day Jimmy Fallon killed comedy forever. #GoldenGlobes I hope @cypresshill at least got some residuals pic.twitter.com/dc28Fw1TvD

Surprise, surprise Emma Stone in La La Land wins: "I have to start by thanking my amazing mum, I moved here 13 years ago this week ... (Again with the 'taking the chance' thank yous) ... And Ryan for being such an amazing partner ... and this is a film for dreamers and hope and creativity is what this movie is about ... to anyone anywhere really (who has ever had a door shut in their face, metaphorically and literally) I share this with you."
