Dinosaur National Monument straddles the borders of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. Much of it can be accessed only by winding dirt roads.
Its stellar attractions include a Dinosaur Quarry building, which shelters a fossilized cliff from which 1,500 dinosaur bones and fragments jut.
There are a number of spectacular high overlooks scattered through the Monument, including a spectacular gorge towering above the Green River called the Gates of Lodore in the northern (Wyoming) corner.
Another very special place is Echo Park, also called 'The Center of the Universe' a favorite paradise for river rafters.
The most amazing formation we experience may also be the best high viewing site in the entire southwest, rivaling the great walls of the Grand Canyon. That site is called Harper's Corner. Here, a twenty-foot-wide ledge of stone has a 4,000 foot sheer dropoff to the river on each side, something not found in any other park.

Dinosaur National Monument - Paleontologist Earl Douglass discovered and began excavating these fossils in 1909 for the Carnegie Museum. In 1915 the Carnegie Quarry's world-class bones of late Jurassic dinosaurs were protected in this 80 acre preserve. In todays's 210,000 acre national monument you can explore the quarry and the scenic and historic Green and Yampa Rivers, their canyons, mountains, basins and archeological sites and 23 colorful rock layers of the Colorado Plateau. The monument extends east from here into Colorado and there is another entrance at that location.

This video was shot with a GoPro Hero 3 mounted on the windshield of my car as I drove down Echo Park Road in Dinosaur National Monument. The road starts at 7500 feet at Harpers Corner Road in the canyons section of the national monument in Utah, and descends 2500 feet to the Echo Park in Colorado. Echo Park is on the Green River just below the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. The end of the video includes a panorama of the meadow and surrounding cliffs next to the confluence at the end of the one mile hike out to where the Yampa River empties into the Green River.
Echo Park Road is 13 miles long, and is steep in the first mile of switchbacks. This section is impassable if wet.

10-28-2013 Dinosaur National Monument Park
After visiting Josie Bassett Morris' (A Real Pioneer) home, I decided to take the gravel road to Blue Mountain. The map they gave me at the visitor's station showed a few dotted lines & ended. I thought it was taking me back to a vista, and would view the mountain from there. Wrong!!! After 5 miles on this road, the road was getting worse, and like the sign said "recommended 4 wheel drive only". Who actually believes what signs say? Plus you are talking about me, if a 4 wheel drive can do it; I can do it. Wrong Again!!!! It was getting worse by the foot, and I wasn't going to turn back. My biggest concern was a sharp rock puncturing my tire/s, and I only had one spare. On I went, and came to a T road, county road 1550 (didn't know that at the time). To the right was a flooded out road, and looked like at least a foot deep, and sure it was quick mud under it. To he left another flooded out section. What to do, I sure didn't want to go back where I came from, that was a fact Jack! I could see that someone blazed a trail around the flooded road to the left, and on the other side of it was a huge dozier that was broken down & missing a front right tire/rim/& all. I had this vision of a 2007 Aveo looking the same, but I turned left and bounced around the flooded out section of road. I came to another T in the road which was 100 times better than the road I came from, and had a county road 1556 on it. Now, which way to turn. Since I was headed Northeast most of the time, I turned right to go back towards the South. Wrong!!!! Oh, by the way my cord for my GPS was broke, and eventually the batter gave out. The last time I looked at it; was an arrow in the middle of nowhere. I took county road 1556 until I came to a large circle with poles lining both sides of the road around it. Had to be at least a 1/8th of a mile in diameter, and yes, it led to nowhere. It was beautiful looking from the top looking for miles & miles. Later I found out that was where they held the World Hand Gliding event years ago). I had one bar on my cell phone, and I have never called 911 until now.
911 operator answers the phone (sigh of relief) and she said "What is your Location, and what is your Emergency?" My Response was "My Emergency is I Don't Know My Location!!" She busted out laughing; guess that broke the ice. She told me that she would track my cell's GPS, and would proceed from there. Few minutes she came back, and could see where I was, but had no clue on how to get me out of there. Guess she had the same map as I had. She asked me if I could go back the way I came, and I told here no way would I go back that direction, and would rather be lost. Again, she busted out laughing. She told me to stay there, and if no one called me within 10 min to call back. After 10 min I drove around the circle, took some photos, and then called her back. I told her that I drove back to the intersection where I saw the CR 1556 sign, and found that I had came off Utah County Road 1550. She told me she would relay that information to the County Sheriff, and wait again for another call. Those of you that know me, know that I am very impatient to say the least. I looked at my phone & seen that I had a voice mail. Yes, the phone didn't ring, I just happened to be bored enough to open it up. I couldn't call the number back for whatever reason, so I called 911 again. It's Erick, before she could start her rehearsed message, which always made her laugh. I told her that I was on a good road, and it dead ended at the huge circle. That I would just head the opposite direction, and it would surely lead me to a paved road. I told her that I would call her back one way or the other in about an hour, that should give me time to find something good or bad. I thanked her for helping me, and making me think. After hanging up, I remembered that I had Tiffany's GPS in the glove box, and sure enough it was there, and there was a green road the arrow was following. YEAH!!!! About 30 min & 10 miles later I came out to a paved road. I called her back, and said "I am on a paved road, GPS knows where I am at, and that All Is Good!!" I told her thanks, and to have a wonderful day. She wished me the same. Thank God for having me ask Tiffany for her GPS & Thank God for the one bar. Here endeth the lesson for the day.

Dinosaur National Monument is what the dreams of geologists, paleontologists and children are made of! Dinosaurs everywhere. Dinosaur National Monument takes its name from a remarkable deposit of fossil bones of crocodiles, turtles and 10 species of dinosaurs from 150 million years ago. Long ago, dynamic forces pushed and tilted layers of rock upward. Later, erosion exposed the layers as colorful ridges and revealed remnants of ancient ecosystems including now-extinct animals that inhabited landscapes quite different from what you see in the photos. Most people come to see dinosaur fossils and there are 1,500 visible bones of these amazing creatures still encased in the rock at the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall. But there is more to see here beyond the amazing fossils. Go whitewater rafting and star gazing.
Explore mountains and canyons. Watch wildlife and photograph wildflowers. Contemplate historic cabins and Fremont rock art. Dinosaur offers countless opportunities for discovery!
Dinosaur National Monument is spread over 210,000 acres along the Colorado and Utah border. Each part of the monument offers different experiences and things to see.
If you want to see Dinosaur Fossils, the Utah side of the monument is where you will want to go. Utah State Highway 149 takes visitors into the monument and to the Quarry Visitor Center. Depending on the season, you may either drive to the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall or in summer, a shuttle bus will take you.
If you desire is to see some of the spectacular canyon country scenery, the Colorado side is the place for you. The Harpers Corner Road is a 32 mile scenic drive that includes overlooks of the Yampa and Green rivers. The short Harpers Corner Trail at the road's end is a must to get the most dramatic views. For those with a high clearance vehicle, the drive to Echo Park will take you into the depths of the river canyons.

A National monument is a monument constructed in order to commemorate something of national importance such as a war or the country's founding. The term may also refer to a specific monument status, such as a national heritage site, which most national monuments are by reason of their cultural importance rather than age. The National monument aims to represent the nation, and serve as a focus for national identity.
Overview
A series of structures or areas deemed to be of national importance and therefore afforded protection by the state are part of a country's cultural heritage. These national heritage sites are often called something different per country and are listed by national conservation societies. Dinosaur National Monument
Dinosaur National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located on the southeast flank of the Uinta Mountains on the border between Colorado and Utah at the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. Although most of the monument area is in Moffat County, Colorado, the Dinosaur Quarry 40°26′29″N 109°18′04″W / 40.44139°N 109.30111°W / 40.44139; -109.30111 is located in Utah just to the north of the town of Jensen, Utah.
The nearest communities are Vernal, Utah and Dinosaur, Colorado. This park contains over 800 paleontological sites and has fossils of dinosaurs including Allosaurus, Deinonychus, Abydosaurus (a nearly complete skull, lower jaws and first four neck vertebrae of the specimen DINO 16488 found here at the base of the Mussentuchit Member of the Cedar Mountain Formation is the holotype for the description) and various long-neck, long-tail sauropods. It was declared a National Monument on October 4, 1915.
Geology
The rock layer enclosing the fossils is a sandstone and conglomerate bed of alluvial or river bed origin known as the Morrison Formation from the Jurassic Period some 150 million years old. The dinosaurs and other ancient animals were carried by the river system which eventually entombed their remains.

Dinosaur
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, 231.4 million years ago, and were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the start of the Jurassic (about 200 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous (66 million years ago), when the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups at the end of the Mesozoic Era. Until the late 20th century, all groups were believed to be extinct; however, the fossil record indicates that birds are modern feathered dinosaurs, having evolved from theropod ancestors during the Jurassic Period. As such, birds were the only dinosaurs to survive the mass extinction event.

My Response was "My Emergency is I Don't Know My Location!!" She busted out laughing; guess that broke the ice. She told me that she would track my cell's GPS, and would proceed from there. Few minutes she came back, and could see where I was, but had no clue on how to get me out of there. Guess she had the same map as I had. She asked me if I could go back the way I came, and I told here no way would I go back that direction, and would rather be lost. Again, she busted out laughing. She told me to stay there, and if no one called me within 10 min to call back. After 10 min I drove around the circle, took some photos, and then called her back. I told her that I drove back to the intersection where I saw the CR 1556 sign, and found that I had came off Utah County Road 1550. She told me she would relay that information to the County Sheriff, and wait again for another call. Those of you that know me, know that I am very impatient to say the least. I looked at my phone & seen that I had a voice mail. Yes, the phone didn't ring, I just happened to be bored enough to open it up. I couldn't call the number back for whatever reason, so I called 911 again. It's Erick, before she could start her rehearsed message, which always made her laugh. I told her that I was on a good road, and it dead ended at the huge circle. That I would just head the opposite direction, and it would surely lead me to a paved road. I told her that I would call her back one way or the other in about an hour, that should give me time to find something good or bad. I thanked her for helping me, and making me think. After hanging up, I remembered that I had Tiffany's GPS in the glove box, and sure enough it was there, and there was a green road the arrow was following. YEAH!!!! About 30 min & 10 miles later I came out to a paved road. I called her back, and said "I am on a paved road, GPS knows where I am at, and that All Is Good!!" I told her thanks, and to have a wonderful day. She wished me the same. Thank God for having me ask Tiffany for her GPS & Thank God for the one bar. Here endeth the lesson for the day. In 1915 the Carnegie Quarry's world-class bones of late Jurassic dinosaurs were protected in this 80 acre preserve. In todays's 210,000 acre national monument you can explore the quarry and the scenic and historic Green and Yampa Rivers, their canyons, mountains, basins and archeological sites and 23 colorful rock layers of the Colorado Plateau. The monument extends east from here into Colorado and there is another entrance at that location.

Echo Park Road and Echo Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Utah and Colorado
This video was shot with a GoPro Hero 3 mounted on the windshield of my car as I drove down Echo Park Road in Dinosaur National Monument. The road starts at 7500 feet at Harpers Corner Road in the canyons section of the national monument in Utah, and descends 2500 feet to the Echo Park in Colorado. Echo Park is on the Green River just below the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. The end of the video includes a panorama of the meadow and surrounding cliffs next to the confluence at the end of the one mile hike out to where the Yampa River empties into the Green River. Echo Park Road is 13 miles long, and is steep in the first mile of switchbacks. This section is impassable if wet. This was shot on 17 October 2015.

10-28-2013 Dinosaur National Monument Park After visiting Josie Bassett Morris' (A Real Pioneer) home, I decided to take the gravel road to Blue Mountain. The map they gave me at the visitor's station showed a few dotted lines & ended. I thought it was taking me back to a vista, and would view the mountain from there. Wrong!!! After 5 miles on this road, the road was getting worse, and like the sign said "recommended 4 wheel drive only". Who actually believes what signs say? Plus you are talking about me, if a 4 wheel drive can do it; I can do it. Wrong Again!!!! It was getting worse by the foot, and I wasn't going to turn back. My biggest concern was a sharp rock puncturing my tire/s, and I only had one spare. On I went, and came to a T road, county road 1550 (didn't know that at the time...

After visiting Josie Bassett Morris' (A Real Pioneer) home, I decided to take the gravel road to Blue Mountain. The map they gave me at the visitor's station showed a few dotted lines & ended. I thought it was taking me back to a vista, and would view the mountain from there. Wrong!!! After 5 miles on this road, the road was getting worse, and like the sign said "recommended 4 wheel drive only". Who actually believes what signs say? Plus you are talking about me, if a 4 wheel drive can do it; I can do it. Wrong Again!!!! It was getting worse by the foot, and I wasn't going to turn back. My biggest concern was a sharp rock puncturing my tire/s, and I only had one spare. On I went, and came to a T road, county road 1550 (didn't know that at the time). To the right was a flooded out road, and looked like at least a foot deep, and sure it was quick mud under it. To he left another flooded out section. What to do, I sure didn't want to go back where I came from, that was a fact Jack! I could see that someone blazed a trail around the flooded road to the left, and on the other side of it was a huge dozier that was broken down & missing a front right tire/rim/& all. I had this vision of a 2007 Aveo looking the same, but I turned left and bounced around the flooded out section of road. I came to another T in the road which was 100 times better than the road I came from, and had a county road 1556 on it. Now, which way to turn. Since I was headed Northeast most of the time, I turned right to go back towards the South. Wrong!!!! Oh, by the way my cord for my GPS was broke, and eventually the batter gave out. The last time I looked at it; was an arrow in the middle of nowhere. I took county road 1556 until I came to a large circle with poles lining both sides of the road around it. Had to be at least a 1/8th of a mile in diameter, and yes, it led to nowhere. It was beautiful looking from the top looking for miles & miles. Later I found out that was where they held the World Hand Gliding event years ago). I had one bar on my cell phone, and I have never called 911 until now.
911 operator answers the phone (sigh of relief) and she said "What is your Location, and what is your Emergency?" My Response was "My Emergency is I Don't Know My Location!!" She busted out laughing; guess that broke the ice. She told me that she would track my cell's GPS, and would proceed from there. Few minutes she came back, and could see where I was, but had no clue on how to get me out of there. Guess she had the same map as I had. She asked me if I could go back the way I came, and I told here no way would I go back that direction, and would rather be lost. Again, she busted out laughing. She told me to stay there, and if no one called me within 10 min to call back. After 10 min I drove around the circle, took some photos, and then called her back. I told her that I drove back to the intersection where I saw the CR 1556 sign, and found that I had came off Utah County Road 1550. She told me she would relay that information to the County Sheriff, and wait again for another call. Those of you that know me, know that I am very impatient to say the least. I looked at my phone & seen that I had a voice mail. Yes, the phone didn't ring, I just happened to be bored enough to open it up. I couldn't call the number back for whatever reason, so I called 911 again. It's Erick, before she could start her rehearsed message, which always made her laugh. I told her that I was on a good road, and it dead ended at the huge circle. That I would just head the opposite direction, and it would surely lead me to a paved road. I told her that I would call her back one way or the other in about an hour, that should give me time to find something good or bad. I thanked her for helping me, and making me think. After hanging up, I remembered that I had Tiffany's GPS in the glove box, and sure enough it was there, and there was a green road the arrow was following. YEAH!!!! About 30 min & 10 miles later I came out to a paved road. I called her back, and said "I am on a paved road, GPS knows where I am at, and that All Is Good!!" I told her thanks, and to have a wonderful day. She wished me the same. Thank God for having me ask Tiffany for her GPS & Thank God for the one bar. Here endeth the lesson for the day.

10-28-2013 Dinosaur National Monument Park
After visiting Josie Bassett Morris' (A Real Pioneer) home, I decided to take the gravel road to Blue Mountain. The map they gave me at the visitor's station showed a few dotted lines & ended. I thought it was taking me back to a vista, and would view the mountain from there. Wrong!!! After 5 miles on this road, the road was getting worse, and like the sign said "recommended 4 wheel drive only". Who actually believes what signs say? Plus you are talking about me, if a 4 wheel drive can do it; I can do it. Wrong Again!!!! It was getting worse by the foot, and I wasn't going to turn back. My biggest concern was a sharp rock puncturing my tire/s, and I only had one spare. On I went, and came to a T road, county road 1550 (didn't know that at the time). To the right was a flooded out road, and looked like at least a foot deep, and sure it was quick mud under it. To he left another flooded out section. What to do, I sure didn't want to go back where I came from, that was a fact Jack! I could see that someone blazed a trail around the flooded road to the left, and on the other side of it was a huge dozier that was broken down & missing a front right tire/rim/& all. I had this vision of a 2007 Aveo looking the same, but I turned left and bounced around the flooded out section of road. I came to another T in the road which was 100 times better than the road I came from, and had a county road 1556 on it. Now, which way to turn. Since I was headed Northeast most of the time, I turned right to go back towards the South. Wrong!!!! Oh, by the way my cord for my GPS was broke, and eventually the batter gave out. The last time I looked at it; was an arrow in the middle of nowhere. I took county road 1556 until I came to a large circle with poles lining both sides of the road around it. Had to be at least a 1/8th of a mile in diameter, and yes, it led to nowhere. It was beautiful looking from the top looking for miles & miles. Later I found out that was where they held the World Hand Gliding event years ago). I had one bar on my cell phone, and I have never called 911 until now.

ABOUT DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT
Dinosaur National Monument is what the dreams of geologists, paleontologists and children are made of! Dinosaurs everywhere. Dinosaur National Monument takes its name from a remarkable deposit of fossil bones of crocodiles, turtles and 10 species of dinosaurs from 150 million years ago. Long ago, dynamic forces pushed and tilted layers of rock upward. Explore mountains and canyons. Watch wildlife and photograph wildflowers. Contemplate historic cabins and Fremont rock art. Dinosaur offers countless opportunities for discovery!
Dinosaur National Monument is spread over 210,000 acres along the Colorado and Utah border. Each part of the monument offers different experiences and things to see.
If you want to see Dinosaur Fossils, the Utah side of the monument is where you will want to go. Utah State Highway 149 takes visitors into the monument and to the Quarry Visitor Center. Depending on the season, you may either drive to the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall or in summer, a shuttle bus will take you.
If you desire is to see some of the spectacular canyon country scenery, the Colorado side is the place for you. The Harpers Corner Road is a 32 mile scenic drive that includes overlooks of the Yampa and Green rivers. The short Harpers Corner Trail at the road's end is a must to get the most dramatic views. For those with a high clearance vehicle, the drive to Echo Park will take you into the depths of the river canyons.

Dinosaur National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located on the southeast flank of the Uinta Mountains on the border between Colorado and Utah at the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. Although most of the monument area is in Moffat County, Colorado, the Dinosaur Quarry 40°26′29″N 109°18′04″W is located in Utah just to the north of the town of Jensen, Utah. White water rafting trip on the Green River through Dinosaur National Monument organized by Thelma Coles and Mike Smith. We covered 45 miles from the Gates of Ladore in Colorado to take out at Split Mountain in Utah. We were lucky to have Bill Oliver and Beth Galiger on board for music every evening around the fire. In addition, the CD "Friend of the River" features Bill Oliver and the Otter Space Band on as with many of the video's themes. Echo Park Road and Echo Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Utah and Colorado
This video was shot with a GoPro Hero 3 mounted on the windshield of my car as I drove down Echo Park Road in Dinosaur National Monument. The road starts at 7500 feet at Harpers Corner Road in the canyons section of the national monument in Utah, and descends 2500 feet to the Echo Park in Colorado. Echo Park is on the Green River just below the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. The end of the video includes a panorama of the meadow and surrounding cliffs next to the confluence at the end of the one mile hike out to where the Yampa River empties into the Green River. Echo Park Road is 13 miles long, and is steep in the first mile of switchbacks. This section is impassable if wet. This was shot on 17 October 2015.
