Its GDP per capita stands at 65.400 USD and ranks 14th worldwide. At the same time, it’s also one the most isolated countries in the world. And, it is this distance that gives the impression that Australia is security-wise invulnerable and irrelevant to the global geopolitical arena. Yet, for most of its history, Australia has participated in numerous military confrontations. Its soldiers have fought in Europe, Africa, and Asia. With the exception of World War II, none of these conflicts posed a genuine threat to the security of Australia. This begs the question, why has a wealthy and secure nation as Australia fought in so many wars? What has dri...
Check out the Best of VICE here: http://bit.ly/VICE-Best-Of It's now tougher than ever to be a bikie in Australia. In 2013 Campbell Newman, premier of the state of Queensland, declared that 26 motorcycle clubs were to be classified criminal organisations. He then announced "the toughest laws in the nation," a set of strict anti-association laws aimed at snuffing out bikie gangs altogether. The new laws prohibited club members from meeting in groups larger than two, barred them from certain jobs, and forced anyone on a Harley to prove they weren't a part of a criminal gang. This has made life difficult for all riders, and just about impossible for club members. It also drove an upswing of arrests for both. So are the laws working? And more importantly, do they make sense? We hung out ...

"If you need to know the differences between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, you probably shouldn't ask Australian nationalist politician Stephanie Banister. The 27-year-old One Nation party candidate for parliament proved herself ignorant on key facts while discussing her policy beliefs with a 7News reporter Wednesday evening. At one point, she declared "Islam" to be a country; at another, she suggested the Jewish religion follows Christ; and another, she asserted a federal disability program was working quite well despite not going into effect for three more years."* Is Stephanie Banister the Australian Sarah Palin...or is she even more of a joke? The Australian nationalist politician is now trying to ban halal foods, based on hilariously bad religious misinformation. Cenk Uygur, Be...

Sarah Palin reacted to Paul Ryan's refusal to endorse Trump and discussed whether she would consider serving as Trump's running mate in an exclusive interview with Jake Tapper.
On Tuesday's edition of "The View," co-host Barbara Walters dismissed a series of interviews Sarah Palin gave to a conservative filmmaker as "disturbing." The veteran journalist stiffly claimed that "one is not sure why she keeps doing these interviews." The comment occurred while the women of the ABC program were debating an assertion by Palin that the media may treat possible New York Senator Caroline Kennedy in a more favorable light. Responding to a clip of the former Republican vice presidential candidate arguing that there might be a class issue in how reporters will treat Kennedy, Walters complained, "...Why she still makes it a class issue is something that, especially right now, and when we all want to work together, I found disturbing." The longtime ABC correspondent also conte...

In today’s episode economist Steve Keen explains why Australia is in a property bubble and what you can do about it. Is there currently an Australian property bubble? Some experts say that there is and that prices in property could fall by as much as 40% or more. While other experts say that we aren’t. Today, I have with me an expert in the Australian property bubble, an economist, Steve Keen, who understands this issue like nobody else. I was really excited to get him on and to understand why he believes that we are in a property bubble in Australia, to talk through some of the statistics and to also really get an idea of is this bubble likely to pop in the near future and what can we do about it as investors. I’m really excited to have this interview today on whether or not Australia i...
Exposing the lies Australian Politicians tell us. Our freedoms are being eroded right under our noses. Our Australian politicians have betrayed us by removing Christmas Carolling & Christian Religious Education (CRE) from Victorian state public schools, and to add insult to injury, they have introduced radical sex education that promotes cross-dressing and transgender bathrooms to primary school students. If you didn’t know, it has already started in Victoria, without parents’ consultation. Find out the names of who's doing it. DID YOU KNOW… Penny Wong of the Labor party has promised to appoint an anti-discrimination commissioner to police our speech? Travelling through the Australian continent, one is often appalled by the living conditions of the Aborigine people. Having lost touch with their culture and traditions, many of them have become outcasts or alcoholics who aimlessly wander the streets of the Australian cities. From the early 1800s to the late 1960s, Aborigines were gradually deprived of their land by the white man who used it for herding, cropping, and mineral extraction. Forced to leave their homelands, Aborigines were often separated from their children, who were sent to live with white families or to boarding schools, in an attempt to teach them the white man’s values. Today 390,000 Aborigines account for less than 3% of the current Australian population. Learn how they are beginning to find their place in a society whic...
