"Catalysis for sustainable production of fuels and chemicals"
Abstract: The development of a sustainable energy system puts renewed focus on catalytic processes for energy conversion. We will need to find new catalysts for a number of processes if we are to successfully synthesize fuels and other chemicals from solar or wind electricity. Insight into the way the catalysts work at the molecular level may prove essential to speed up the discovery process. The lecture will outline a theory of heterogeneous catalysis that singles out the most important parameters determining catalytic activity and selectivity. I will use nitrogen reduction to ammonia as the main example and discuss the possibility to find sustainable alternatives to the well-known Haber-Bosch process.
This lecture was given virtually via Zoom by Jens K. Nørskov, Villum Kann Rasmussen Professor at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) on 11 November, 2020.

Dr. Jens U. Berli specializes in gender affirming surgery and offers a full range of facial, chest and phalloplasty procedures for transgender individuals.
Dr. Berli received his medical degree from the University of Zurich. His residency was spent in general surgery/ortho-trauma at Triemli City Hospital Zurich, in Switzerland, and in general surgery and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He gained his experience in gender surgery by working closely with Dr. Beverly Fischer and Dr. Bluebond-Langner during his time in Baltimore. In 2016, he spent elective time with the reconstructive urologists at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since 2014, Dr. Berli has been a visiting physician and traveling fellow at the premier centers for transgender health: Ghent University, Belgium; Preecha Aesthetic Institute, Bangkok, Thailand; St. Peter's Andrology Centre, London, U.K.; Belgrade Center for Genital Reconstructive Surgery, Serbia; and FACIALTEAM, Marbella, Spain. Dr. Berli is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. His research interests include the effects of facial feminization on quality of life and the improvement of current phalloplasty designs. He is also involved in transgender advocacy and improved access for facial feminization. OHSU Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery provides innovative, quality, expert care. We offer a broad range of services to create natural results for each patient. The OHSU Transgender Health Program (THP) is dedicated to supporting access to high-quality, affirming and welcoming health care for trans men and women, gender nonconforming and nonbinary individuals. Our program recognizes the unique health care needs of people with diverse gender expressions and identities. The THP provides direct medical care as well as consultation, education, advocacy, support and policy development to promote competent care for transgender people.

Jens, Switzerland
Jens is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
History
Jens is first mentioned in 1229-30 as Gens. In 1335 it was mentioned as Jensse.
The village was originally part of the Herrschaft of Nidau. In 1335, the owner of the Herrschaft, the Knight Ulrich von Sutz, sold his land to the Counts of Neuchâtel-Nidau. The Counts held the land until 1398 when it was acquired by the city of Bern. Under Bernese rule Jens became part of the Bailiwick of Nidau. Jens and Worben formed a court in the Bailiwick and it was part of the parish of Bürglen. During the Jura water correction projects of 1868-91, a canal was built in Jens and the nearby marsh was drained. The majority of the new farmland was planted with sugar beets for the sugar beet factory in Aarberg. As the population grew, the housing developments of Tannacker and Weieried were built in the late 1970s. Today about two-thirds of the workers commute to jobs outside the municipality.

Dr. Jens U. Berli specializes in gender affirming surgery and offers a full range of facial, chest and phalloplasty procedures for transgender individuals.
Dr. Berli received his medical degree from the University of Zurich. His residency was spent in general surgery/ortho-trauma at Triemli City Hospital Zurich, in Switzerland, and in general surgery and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He gained his experience in gender surgery by working closely with Dr. Beverly Fischer and Dr. Bluebond-Langner during his time in Baltimore. In 2016, he spent elective time with the reconstructive urologists at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since 2014, Dr. Berli has been a visiting physician and traveling fellow at the premier centers for transgender health: Ghent University, Belgium; Preecha Aesthetic Institute, Bangkok, Thailand; St. Peter's Andrology Centre, London, U.K.; Belgrade Center for Genital Reconstructive Surgery, Serbia; and FACIALTEAM, Marbella, Spain. Dr. Berli is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. His research interests include the effects of facial feminization on quality of life and the improvement of current phalloplasty designs. He is also involved in transgender advocacy and improved access for facial feminization. OHSU Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery provides innovative, quality, expert care. We offer a broad range of services to create natural results for each patient. The OHSU Transgender Health Program (THP) is dedicated to supporting access to high-quality, affirming and welcoming health care for trans men and women, gender nonconforming and nonbinary individuals. Our program recognizes the unique health care needs of people with diverse gender expressions and identities. The THP provides direct medical care as well as consultation, education, advocacy, support and policy development to promote competent care for transgender people.

"Catalysis for sustainable production of fuels and chemicals"
Abstract: The development of a sustainable energy system puts renewed focus on catalytic processes for energy conversion. We will need to find new catalysts for a number of processes if we are to successfully synthesize fuels and other chemicals from solar or wind electricity. Insight into the way the catalysts work at the molecular level may prove essential to speed up the discovery process. The lecture will outline a theory of heterogeneous catalysis that singles out the most important parameters determining catalytic activity and selectivity. I will use nitrogen reduction to ammonia as the main example and discuss the possibility to find sustainable alternatives to the well-known Haber-Bosch process.
This lecture was given virtually via Zoom by Jens K. Nørskov, Villum Kann Rasmussen Professor at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) on 11 November, 2020.
