Sasha Obama missed her father's final speech as President because of an exam

Being part of the First Family of the United States comes with many privileges and responsibilities, but it seems that getting out of exams because your dad has a momentous farewell address to make while the nation watches isn't one of them.

While the rest of her family sat in on Barack Obama's final speech as President of the United States, 15-year-old Sasha Obama was absent. And the internet being the internet, people noticed.

Obama gets emotional thanking his wife, family

US President Barack Obama gets emotional during his farewell speech while thanking his wife, Michelle, and their daughters Malia and Sasha.

Before long, the hashtag #WhereIsSasha was trending, with some speculating hopefully that she might be refusing to vacate the White House.

Others were simply confused that she would miss the speech, especially when Obama began talking about his family and both Michelle and 18-year-old Malia teared up.

Addressing both his daughters, the President thanked them and expressed his pride in being their father: "Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion," Obama said.

"You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I've done in my life, I'm most proud to be your dad."

The word finally came from a White House official, who confirmed the speculation of many on Twitter that Sasha had in fact sat out the speech to study for an exam being held in the morning. Now that's some commitment to education.
