Holden sports car coming by 2020

But GM International boss still tight-lipped on details of the proposed V8 coupe.

Two years ago at the 2015 Detroit motor show General Motors International chief Stefan Jacoby revealed plans to bring a V8-powered two-door sports car to Australia.

Since then, nothing.

Neither Jacoby or any other senior GM executive has added any details to those original comments.

Finally though Jacoby has provided another sliver of detail, confirming that the sports coupe is one of the much talked about 24 new models due to join Holden's line-up by 2020.

But that was all he revealed.

"That was 2015 it is only 2017, please be patient," Jacoby said.

However, the timing suggests that the new sports car will be either the facelifted Chevrolet Camaro due in 2019 or the all-new eighth generation Chevrolet Corvette due in 2018 (or 2019 at the latest). Holden could, feasibly, offer both through its dealerships, giving the brand a rival to both the Ford Mustang and a replacement for the flagship HSV GTS.

But any official confirmation is still left waiting as Jacoby and co. are keeping any more details close to the chest.
