Rang

Rang (English: Colours, Hindi: रंग, Urdu: رنگ,) is a 1993 Bollywood romance film, produced by Mansoor Ahmed Siddiqui on ANAS Films banner and directed by Talat Jani. Starring Kamal Sadanah and Divya Bharti in the lead roles and Jeetendra, Amrita Singh and Ayesha Jhulka in the supporting roles and music composed by Nadeem-Shravan. Divya Bharti died three months before the film was released and it was dedicated to her memory. The film recorded as hit at the box office.

Plot

Yogi Joshi (Kamal Sadanah) is the hardworking middle-class student who goes to college with the traditional Pooja (Ayesha Julka), who is the daughter of a single father. Pooja has been in love with Yogi for quite some time, but Yogi seems to see her as a good friend. Pooja is very possessive of a particular parking spot in school and does not like anyone parking in that spot.

Yogi's father (Bharat Kapoor) works at the factory owned by the successful Indu Singh (Amrita Singh). Indu admits her daughter into the same college as Yogi and Pooja. She is a trustee of the college and is assured by the Principal that Kajal is in good hands. Kajal (Divya Bharti) goes to college and tries to park in Pooja's spot, but Pooja cuts her off. The two get in an altercation and to show Pooja how much power Kajal has, she drives her jeep into the corridors of the college and stops right in front of Pooja and her friends, including Yogi. Pooja holds her own and is unimpressed. Pooja and Yogi's friend Jojo, who had been run over by Kajal in her rampage, tells his friends that he cut Kajal's breaks. Yogi, feeling responsible for Jojo's actions, runs after Kajal's car. He catches up to her right as her car falls over a cliff into a river. He saves the unconscious Kajal from drowning and brings her home. Indu's mother, the snobby Suchitra (Bindu) offends Yogi by trying to give him money, but he politely refuses.

Divya Bharti

Divya Om Prakash Bharti (also known as Sana Nadiadwala after marriage; 1974 – 1993) was an Indian film actress and model, who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu motion pictures in the early 1990s.

Born in Bombay, Bharti was widely recognized as one of the finest actresses of her time. She started to get film offers as early as 14 years of age. At the age of 16, Bharti made her on-screen debut with a leading role in the Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990). After starring in a number of popular Telugu films, she then progressed to Bollywood (Hindi) films in 1992 with the action thriller Vishwatma. Bharti went on to have commercial success alongside top actors including Govinda in films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana with Shah Rukh Khan, the latter of which garnered her a Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year. She acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and early 1993 which is to date an unbroken record for a newcomer in Bollywood.

Bharti died on 5 April 1993 at the age of 19 after falling off the balcony of her five-story apartment in Versova. Her cause of falling was never officially confirmed.

Alka Yagnik (Hindi: अलका याज्ञनिक, Bengali: অলকা ইয়াগনিক) is an Indian playback singer. She is noted in Hindi cinema with a career spanning over three decades. She is a record seven-time winner from a record of 36 nominations of the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, a two-time recipient of the National Film Award as well as several other music awards & honours. Further, as many as 20 of her tracks feature in BBC's "Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time" review.

Early life and background

Alka Yagnik was born in Kolkata on 20 March 1966, to Gujarati Hindu Parents. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was a singer of Indian classical music. She did her schooling from Modern High School for Girls. In 1972 at the age of six, she started singing for Akashvani (All India Radio), Calcutta. At age 10, her mother brought her to Mumbai as a child singer. She was advised to wait until her voice matured, but her mother remained determined. On a subsequent visit, Alka got a letter of introduction to Raj Kapoor from his Kolkata distributor. Kapoor heard the girl and sent her with a letter to noted music director Laxmikant. Impressed, Laxmikant gave her two alternatives – an immediate start as a dubbing artist or a later break as a singer; Shubha chose the latter for her daughter.

Kamal Sadanah

Kamal Sadanah (born 21 October 1970) is an Indian actor, producer and director. He is the son of producer and director Brij Sadanah.

Career

Kamal made his acting debut opposite Kajol in the 1992 film Bekhudi which did not do well at the box office. In 1993, he acted alongside the late Divya Bharti in Rang which was a hit . After this, he acted in a string of films which failed to do well. At the end of the 90s, he quit films for several years and made a comeback to acting in 2006 with a role in the Zee TV television serial Kasamh Se.

In 2005, he turned producer and director making his directorial debut with a small-budget film titled Karkash. In 2007, he produced Victoria No. 203 which is a remake of his father's 1972 hit film of the same name and was directed by Anant Mahadevan. The film was produced by Kamal's production company Angath Arts Pvt. Ltd. Kamal also has a supporting role in the film which released on 31 August 2007. In 2014 he wrote and directed Roar which released on 31 October 2014.
