Clive Staples Lewis (29 November 1898 -- 22 November 1963), commonly called C. S. Lewis and known to his friends and family as "Jack", was a novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian, and Christian apologist born in Belfast, Ireland. He held academic positions at both Oxford University (Magdalen College), 1925--1954, and Cambridge University (Magdalene College), 1954--1963. He is best known both for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.
Lewis and fellow novelist J. R. R. Tolkien were close friends. Both authors served on the English faculty at Oxford University, and both were active in the informal Oxford literary group known as the "Inklings". According to his memoir Surprised by Joy, Lewis had been baptized in the Church of Ireland (part of the Anglican Communion) at birth, but fell away from his faith during his adolescence. Owing to the influence of Tolkien and other friends, at the age of 32 Lewis returned to the Anglican Communion, becoming "a very ordinary layman of the Church of England".[1] His faith had a profound effect on his work, and his wartime radio broadcasts on the subject of Christianity brought him wide acclaim.
In 1956, he married the American writer Joy Davidman, 17 years his junior, who died four years later of cancer at the age of 45. Lewis died three years after his wife, from renal failure, one week before his 65th birthday. Media coverage of his death was minimal; he died on 22 November 1963—the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the same day another famous author, Aldous Huxley, died. In 2013, on the 50th anniversary of his death, Lewis will be honoured with a memorial in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey.
Lewis's works have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies. The books that make up The Chronicles of Narnia have sold the most and have been popularized on stage, TV, radio, and cinema.

Glenn and Wendy went to Glenn's younger brother's graduation and heard Dawn Richardson(lead singer) sing during the service for it, they asked her to be in the group and she agreed to do it. The band was looking for a drummer at this point, and through a mutual friend they met Phee Shorb, who agreed to play drums.
The name "Fireflight" was suggested by Dawn Richardson shortly before they did a small performance at a church. The name Fireflight has no meaning, as suggested by the band in an interview with Jesus Freak Hideout.
They independently released the album Glam-Rok, which was produced by guitarist Justin Cox, in 2002.They followed it up with the 5-track EP On the Subject of Moving Forward in 2004 before they were signed to the major record label Flicker Records.
The Healing of Harms Album
After years of touring (it is estimated they play 140 shows every year), they released their major label debut album The Healing of Harms in 2006 with two #1 singles "You Decide" and "Waiting". The album was a hit, peaking at #37 on Billboard magazine's Top Christian Albums chart. The song "You Decide", featuring Josh Brown of Day of Fire, was the top request at TVU music television in August 2006. It was the second most played song on Christian Rock radio stations according to the September 1, 2006 R&R; magazine airplay chart, #11 on the R&R; Christian Hit Radio charts on October 23, 2006, and #1 on the Christian Radio Weekly chart. On Billboard's chart, it peaked at #27 on the Hot Christian Singles chart[1] and it finished in the Top 25 of 2006 for the network radio station Air1.
Their second single to rock radio, "Waiting", had reached #1 R&R; and CRW Christian Rock chart, and stayed there for 3 consecutive weeks during the month of February 2007. They concurrently released the songs "It's You", "Star of the Show", and "Attitude" to Christian Hit Radio stations.
During another extensive year of touring, the band was experiencing an emotional roller coaster while writing their album "Unbreakable". Wendy describes on their Myspace how stressful and intense writing the album was:
It almost felt like things were out of control, says Dawn. "Wed gone through a difficult year as a band with a lot of emotional ups and downs. We basically lived together in a van while writing the new album, and that put us in a pressure cooker. All the stresses were magnified because youre completely out of your comfort zone, and it really does crank up the intensity of the writing. We poured all of our hope, sorrow, anger, dreams and fears into the music."

Kids in the Way
Kids in the Way was an American Christian rock band formed in Noblesville, Indiana in 1997. They released three albums on Flicker Records before quietly disbanding in mid-2007. The band reunited in 2009, and in 2010 released an unnamed EP. Later, they announced plans for another new EP, but in 2012 guitarist Nathan Hughes indicated that this would not happen.
Biography
Kids in the Way was formed in 1997 by vocalist David Pelsue, guitarist Nathan Ehman, and the drummer Eric Carter. The band was previously known as Serenity and played a considerably lighter rock sound than when they were Kids in the Way. Kids in the Way released a self-titled EP which set them in place for further record releases and future shows with Audio Adrenaline which was important in their signing to Flicker Records. After releasing their debut album Safe from the Losing Fight, they were able to pick up spots touring with notable bands such as Fireflight, Pillar, and Relient K. Kids in the Way have recently reunited and started playing shows in and around their home state of Indiana. On January 12, 2010 they announced that they were working on an unnamed EP that they expected to release in March. In the US, it was released for a limited time on ITunes, and usually referred to as 'Lost Boy EP'. In 2011, they had announced the possibility of another EP, however, in 2012 guitarist Nathan Hughes revealed via Twitter that the new album was a "no-go", and that new music would be coming from a "different band".

Owing to the influence of Tolkien and other friends, at the age of 32 Lewis returned to the Anglican Communion, becoming "a very ordinary layman of the Church of England".[1] His faith had a profound effect on his work, and his wartime radio broadcasts on the subject of Christianity brought him wide acclaim.
In 1956, he married the American writer Joy Davidman, 17 years his junior, who died four years later of cancer at the age of 45. Lewis died three years after his wife, from renal failure, one week before his 65th birthday. Media coverage of his death was minimal; he died on 22 November 1963—the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the same day another famous author, Aldous Huxley, died. In 2013, on the 50th anniversary of his death, Lewis will be honoured with a memorial in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey.
Lewis's works have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies. The books that make up The Chronicles of Narnia have sold the most and have been popularized on stage, TV, radio, and cinema.

Early Years
Guitarists Justin Cox and Glenn Drennen had gone to school together. Glenn had the idea to start a band with Wendy (Glenn's wife and bassist) and Justin. They were then in need of a singer. Glenn and Wendy went to Glenn's younger brother's graduation and heard Dawn Richardson(lead singer) sing during the service for it, they asked her to be in the group and she agreed to do it. The band was looking for a drummer at this point, and through a mutual friend they met Phee Shorb, who agreed to play drums.
The name "Fireflight" was suggested by Dawn Richardson shortly before they did a small performance at a church. The name Fireflight has no meaning, as suggested by the band in an interview with Jesus Freak Hideout.
They independently released the album Glam-Rok, which was produced by guitarist Justin Cox, in 2002.They followed it up with the 5-track EP On the Subject of Moving Forward in 2004 before they were signed to the major record label Flicker Records.
The Healing of Harms Album
After years of touring (it is estimated they play 140 shows every year), they released their major label debut album The Healing of Harms in 2006 with two #1 singles "You Decide" and "Waiting". The album was a hit, peaking at #37 on Billboard magazine's Top Christian Albums chart. The song "You Decide", featuring Josh Brown of Day of Fire, was the top request at TVU music television in August 2006. It was the second most played song on Christian Rock radio stations according to the September 1, 2006 R&R; magazine airplay chart, #11 on the R&R; Christian Hit Radio charts on October 23, 2006, and #1 on the Christian Radio Weekly chart. On Billboard's chart, it peaked at #27 on the Hot Christian Singles chart[1] and it finished in the Top 25 of 2006 for the network radio station Air1.
Their second single to rock radio, "Waiting", had reached #1 R&R; and CRW Christian Rock chart, and stayed there for 3 consecutive weeks during the month of February 2007. They concurrently released the songs "It's You", "Star of the Show", and "Attitude" to Christian Hit Radio stations.
During another extensive year of touring, the band was experiencing an emotional roller coaster while writing their album "Unbreakable". Wendy describes on their Myspace how stressful and intense writing the album was:
It almost felt like things were out of control, says Dawn. "Wed gone through a difficult year as a band with a lot of emotional ups and downs. We basically lived together in a van while writing the new album, and that put us in a pressure cooker. All the stresses were magnified because youre completely out of your comfort zone, and it really does crank up the intensity of the writing. We poured all of our hope, sorrow, anger, dreams and fears into the music."

Glenn and Wendy went to Glenn's younger brother's graduation and heard Dawn Richardson(lead singer) sing during the service for it, they asked her to be in the group and she agreed to do it. The band was looking for a drummer at this point, and through a mutual friend they met Phee Shorb, who agreed to play drums.
The name "Fireflight" was suggested by Dawn Richardson shortly before they did a small performance at a church. The name Fireflight has no meaning, as suggested by the band in an interview with Jesus Freak Hideout.
They independently released the album Glam-Rok, which was produced by guitarist Justin Cox, in 2002.They followed it up with the 5-track EP On the Subject of Moving Forward in 2004 before they were signed to the major record label Flicker Records.
The Healing of Harms Album
After years of touring (it is estimated they play 140 shows every year), they released their major label debut album The Healing of Harms in 2006 with two #1 singles "You Decide" and "Waiting". The album was a hit, peaking at #37 on Billboard magazine's Top Christian Albums chart. The song "You Decide", featuring Josh Brown of Day of Fire, was the top request at TVU music television in August 2006. It was the second most played song on Christian Rock radio stations according to the September 1, 2006 R&R; magazine airplay chart, #11 on the R&R; Christian Hit Radio charts on October 23, 2006, and #1 on the Christian Radio Weekly chart. On Billboard's chart, it peaked at #27 on the Hot Christian Singles chart[1] and it finished in the Top 25 of 2006 for the network radio station Air1.
Their second single to rock radio, "Waiting", had reached #1 R&R; and CRW Christian Rock chart, and stayed there for 3 consecutive weeks during the month of February 2007. They concurrently released the songs "It's You", "Star of the Show", and "Attitude" to Christian Hit Radio stations.
During another extensive year of touring, the band was experiencing an emotional roller coaster while writing their album "Unbreakable". Wendy describes on their Myspace how stressful and intense writing the album was:
It almost felt like things were out of control, says Dawn. "Wed gone through a difficult year as a band with a lot of emotional ups and downs. We basically lived together in a van while writing the new album, and that put us in a pressure cooker. All the stresses were magnified because youre completely out of your comfort zone, and it really does crank up the intensity of the writing. We poured all of our hope, sorrow, anger, dreams and fears into the music."

In a world filled with poverty, famine and an alarming number of people lacking access to basic essential resources, the fortunate among us enjoy the luxury of griping about #FirstWorldProblems while not being want for much.
There are, however, a significant minority of folks who are in another stratosphere when it comes to luck from birth. Being born into a life of wealth and privilege means never having to worry about saving money or wanting for something that isn’t achievable simply by opening up the check book. The outrageously wealthy among us don’t trouble themselves with haggling over an extra thousand on a home purchase price, bumping elbows with other desperate Black Friday shoppers or poring through coupon flyers in the grocery store.
Of course, exceptional levels of wealth from birth result in their own unique set of problems. Not that we are going to offer much sympathy to the trivial difficulties of heirs and heiresses to enormous fortunes, but it can’t be easy to retain any semblance of normalcy when gifted with extreme riches and living in a cocoon removed from reality. There was that famous T Magazine interview in 2014 that highlighted some of the insane, entitled ramblings of Jaden and Willow Smith, as the teenagers discussed things like time not existing, “prana energy” and cognizant babies being “shocked by this harsh world” while in the womb. The wealthy offspring of A-list actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have now become pop phenoms of their own without ever really being forced to confront the realities of the other 99 percent.
Most of you would probably be the same way if you were presented with untold riches from as early as you can remember. To put things into perspective, every person watching this video is exceptionally lucky. Not only have you emerged on this planet as one of six billion genetic lottery winners amidst an infinite number of sperm cells swimming around, but you are presumably, given your access to a computer and the internet, living a comfortable, financially stable life with a roof over your head, clothing on your body and food on your plate. In a world filled with poverty, famine and an alarming number of people lacking access to basic essential resources, the fortunate among us enjoy the luxury of griping about #FirstWorldProblems while not being want for much.
There are, however, a significant minority of folks who are in another stratosphere when it comes to luck from birth. Being born into a life of wealth and privilege means never having to worry about saving money or wanting for something that isn’t achievable simply by opening up the check book. The outrageously wealthy among us don’t trouble themselves with haggling over an extra thousand on a home purchase price, bumping elbows with other desperate Black Friday shoppers or poring through coupon flyers in the grocery store.
Of course, exceptional levels of wealth from birth result in their own unique set of problems. Not that we are going to offer much sympathy to the trivial difficulties of heirs and heiresses to enormous fortunes, but it can’t be easy to retain any semblance of normalcy when gifted with extreme riches and living in a cocoon removed from reality. There was that famous T Magazine interview in 2014 that highlighted some of the insane, entitled ramblings of Jaden and Willow Smith, as the teenagers discussed things like time not existing, “prana energy” and cognizant babies being “shocked by this harsh world” while in the womb. The wealthy offspring of A-list actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have now become pop phenoms of their own without ever really being forced to confront the realities of the other 99 percent.

However, this private, removed existence only works as well as their social media-exposed children allow it to be.
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the infamous Mexican drug lord who sits at the head of the $3 billion Sinaloa Foundation cartel empire, was recently captured by Mexican authorities six months after escaping from the maximum-security Altiplano Federal Prison in July. While not contributing directly to the arrests, El Chapo’s cover surely wasn’t helped by the prolific tweeting of many of his 11 children, particularly sons Ivan and Alfredo.
The young Guzman sons have used the popular social media site to taunt Mexican officials for their dad’s up-until-recently evasive ways, offering little hints along the way thanks to ill-advised pictures and thoughtless sharing. In September, the younger Alfredo posted a photo that purportedly offered a glimpse of his father while failing to disable the smart phone feature that automatically tags where an image was taken when it was uploaded to the Internet. Immediately following their father’s most recent arrest, both Ivan and Alfredo used Twitter to relay brazen threats to Mexican security forces, including ominous warnings that Joaquin will escape once again. Alfredo even vowed the continuation of the family business, all the while openly acknowledging that Ivan would be the new boss in light of El Chapo’s incarceration.
While these instances of Twitter blabbing seem bewilderingly stupid, they also aren’t entirely uncommon for the children of drug kingpins, most of whom have experienced upbringings far different from that of you or I. Long before they knew anything of their disreputable family business, these kids often enjoyed a childhood planted firmly in the lap of luxury, benefitting from the riches of dirty drug money. As they’ve grown up, those riches have fostered a culture of entitlement and arrogance, mostly embracing their father’s immoral and unlawful trades by taking on an ‘us versus them’ mindset so as to justify their own selfish, self-interested excesses.
Not every drug lord spawn celebrates the criminality of their father, but the ones with the nerve to crow about their dad’s ill-gotten gains tend to do so in pretty horrifying fashion. Those purported to be the social media profiles of the sons and daughters of some of the world’s most infamous drug kingpins often feature grossly over-the-top extravagance presented with a bragging tone that lacks even a shred of self awareness. The outsized, ego-centric personalities on these children of drug lords would be a lot to take even if their riches weren’t gained from addiction and illicit activity.

The pattern of a husband’s pornography use often throws his wife into a chronic world of relationship trauma, fear, and insecurity. Additionally, it impacts their children and other areas of their lives. While most treatment approaches address pornography abstinence for the husband, the impact on the marriage is profound enough to deserve equal ongoing attention. For example, areas such as parenting, finances, sexual intimacy, and communication are compromised by pornography addiction. This presentation discusses the far-reaching effects of pornography use in a marriage and how couples can confront and heal these together.
Jeffrey J. Ford, MS, MFT received his BS in Psychology from the University of Utah and his MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist. Jeff specializes in working with individuals and families struggling with sexual addiction. He has published articles, been a university instructor, and regularly speaks on the topics of pornography, marriage, and addiction.
Geoff Steurer is a licensed marriage and family therapist and founding director of LifeSTAR of St. George, a treatment program for couples and individuals impacted by pornography and sexual addiction. He co-authored “Love You, Hate the Porn: Healing a Relationship Damaged by Virtual Infidelity” and has developed curriculum, articles, and workshops about couple’s recovery. He completed a BA from BYU in communications studies and an MS from Auburn University in marriage and family therapy.
