Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, who was wrongly convicted in the death of her nine-week-old baby Azaria in 1980, has broken her silence on the death of Azaria's father and her ex-husband, Michael Chamberlain.
In a statement released by the Harry Miller Group, she said the news of Dr Chamberlain's death came as a surprise.

The Chamberlain story
Lindy and Michael Chamberlain were convicted, pardoned and later exonerated over the death of their baby daughter, Azaria, at Uluru in 1980.
"I am on my way today to support and be with our children," the statement said. "Given Michael's death was unexpected, I would ask that the media please consider that Michael's wife and all of his children are deeply grieving and need some space."
Dr Chamberlain died in Gosford hospital on the NSW Central Coast on Monday at the age of 72 after suffering complications from acute leukaemia.

As news of Dr Chamberlain's death broke around the world, New Zealand actor Sam Neill, who played Dr Chamberlain opposite Meryl Streep in the film Evil Angels (released as A Cry in the Dark outside of Australia and New Zealand) took to Twitter to pay his respects.

The Chamberlains' daughter, Azaria, was snatched from their tent on a camping trip to Uluru in 1980. Both her parents were ultimately charged for their daughter's disappearance; Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton was given a life sentence in 1982 and Michael Chamberlain convicted as an accessory after the fact.
Ms Chamberlain-Creighton was imprisoned for three years before new evidence was found to overturn the verdict and both were exonerated in 1988. The pair separated in 1990.
It was not until 2012, 32 years after Azaria's death, that a Northern Territory coroner issued the final report in the case, confirming that Azaria was taken by a dingo.
