If you are a digital subscriber who has purchased a subscription with a digital element directly from Economist.com, you do not have to activate in order to obtain access.
To get full access, log in using your Economist.com e-mail address and password.
If you are a subscriber who has purchased a subscription with a digital element via post or phone you will need your customer reference number (CRN), which is found on the mailing label of your print copy, to activate your digital access.
1. Tap the menu icon at the top right of the screen
2. Tap Activate digital access
3. Follow the on-screen instructions
If you have not yet received your first print copy, please follow the instructions in your Welcome e-mail or contact customer service for more information (see below for details).
To enable access on all of your devices, you must log in or register for an Economist.com account from the device on which you purchased your subscription.
1. Ensure you are logged in to the Google Play Store with the account used to purchase your subscription
2. Tap the menu icon at the top right of the screen
3. Tap Log in
4. Tap Register
5. Fill in the required information and then tap Register to create your account
Once you have set up your full digital access your subscription will have been authorised against your Google Play account. You will then be able to log in on other devices using your Economist.com account email address and password.
There are two ways to purchase a Digital subscription in-app:
1. From the library screen tap See subscription offers
Or
2. Tap an issue cover to enter the issue and then tap Subscribe
There are two ways to purchase a single issue in-app:
1. From the Library screen tap Buy single issue and follow the on-screen instructions
Or
2. Tap an issue cover to enter the issue and then tap Buy single issue. Please then follow the on-screen instructions
1. Tap the cover of the issue you'd like to listen to
2. When inside the issue, tap the headphone icon in the top right hand corner
3. The download will start automatically
4. Tap Stop to stop the audio download
Note: due to file size limitations, audio downloads are only available through Wi-Fi connections.
To listen to the audio, tap the headphone icon from within an article.
1. Locate the issue on your Library screen
2. Touch and hold your finger on the front cover
3. Select whether you would like to delete the issue and audio or audio only
4. Tap yes
Note: The covers will remain, but the content will be deleted.
1. Ensure that you are logged into the Google Play Store with the Google Play account used to make the single issue purchase
2. Open The Economist app to the Library screen
3. Tap Account and settings
4. Scroll down to Restore previous purchases and tap this option
5. Return to the Library screen where purchased issues should now have an icon in the bottom right of the issue cover which, when tapped, will download the full issue
To enable or disable push notifications please carry out the following:
1. Open the app to the Library screen
2. Tap the menu button at the top right of the screen
3. Tap Account and settings
4. Scroll down to Notifications and enable or disable the Notification option
To enable or disable the app automatically downloading issues please carry out the following:
1. Open the app to the Library screen
2. Tap the menu button at the top right of the screen
3. Tap Account and settings
4. Scroll down to Download text and images and select or deselect whether the app can download automatically over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi
To enable or disable the app automatically downloading audio please carry out the following:
1. Open the app to the Library screen
2. Tap the menu button at the top right of the screen
3. Tap Account and settings
4. Scroll down to Download of audio and select or deselect whether the app can download the audio edition automatically Wi-Fi
To share an article in-app please carry out the following:
1. Open the article you would like to share
2. Tap the share icon at the top right of the screen next to the menu button
3. Select your method of sharing from the list which is populated
4. Follow the onscreen instructions
Please note that in order to share via different mediums you will need to have them set up on your device.
To adjust the font size of an article please carry out the following:
1. Open the article you would like to read
2. Tap the menu icon at the top right of the screen
3. Select Font size
4. Select the appropriate font size
