Meryl Streep chose to step into the octagon by calling out the world mixed martial arts.

Streep took the gloves off during the Golden Globes Sunday and used her platform to go after Donald Trump. What got lost in the aftermath of her speech was that she also took on mixed martial arts and NFL, which the former did not appreciate.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick 'em all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts,” Streep said.

UFC president Dana White believed Meryl Streep was "uneducated" in her comments about mixed martial arts.

In an interview with TMZ, UFC president Dana White said he wasn’t surprised that an “uppity 80-year-old lady” wasn’t in the demographic for the sport.

“I’m not a big fan of golf, that doesn’t mean people should stop watching it, if you don’t like it change the channel,” White said. “Saying something stupid like that is like saying she’s not a talented actress, which she is.”

White also said the sport was “absolutely” an art and that Streep is uneducated about the sport, as were her comments.

Bellator CEO Scott Coker also chimed in after Streep’s statement. He wrote an open letter to the actress defending MMA and invited her to Bellator 170.

Others in the fighting community also took to Twitter to fire back at the actress for disrespecting their sport.

She was accepting the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award and did not hold back with her disgust for the actions of Trump.

Trump later responded by referring to Streep as “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood.”
