The Tea House Gold Creek opens for business with a focus on local tea

New business The Tea House Gold Creek opened its doors and warmed its kettles for the first time on Saturday, re-branding and re-vamping a much-loved Gungahlin institution.

The tea house was previously the Adore outlet but the business has been bought by Holly and Geoff Herbig who have made it their own. (Adore has since moved to Mitchell.)

The Herbigs have put their own stamp on the business, for a start stocking only Australian tea including Canberra labels Real Chai and Endeavour Tea.

"In essence, we're still the same, we're still all about tea," Holly said.

"But we're also about supporting the little guy. Those who are passionate about growing and blending their own tea."

Holly worked in management with Adore for five years so is more than familiar with the business.

She said taking on the tea house was a considered decision but one she had embraced whole-heartedly.

"I don't think anyone takes on a business lightly and it's a big concern - we have a capacity of 300, we run high teas, we have the retail and hospitality arms of the business," she said.

"But I think people will really notice a difference in the retail part of the business."

The Tea House Gold Creek will be stocking 50 teas which Holly believes is a manageable range that will not overwhelm customers, especially those finding their way around tea-drinking.

She has also added brunch and lunch to the menu of cakes. And a mini-high tea for two will be available throughout the week for those who can't make the bigger high teas on a Saturday.

The Tea House Gold Creek will also be open seven days a week.

The hours are Saturday from 8.30am to 5pm, Sunday 9am to 5pm and Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm.

The Tea House Gold Creek is located at  Federation Square One, Shop 6, 18 O'Hanlon Place, Nicholls.
