Aussies snubbed! Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman and Joel Edgerton all miss out at the Golden Globe Awards
With a swag of nominations, Australia had high hopes of bringing home a gong from the Golden Globe Awards.
But Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Joel Edgerton and Australian-made films Hacksaw Ridge and Lion were all snubbed on Sunday night.
Barry Jenkins' coming-of-age feature Moonlight beat Mel's Hacksaw Ridge for the best picture-drama award.

Mel was also nominated for best director for his latest war film, but that gong went to Damien Chazelle for his flick La La Land.
The acclaimed film scooped up a record seven awards at the ceremony, including best screenplay, while Ryan Gosling picked up best actor in a musical or comedy film for his star role.
Earlier, Nicole Kidman missed out on the supporting actress Globe for Lion, beaten by Viola Davis for her stirring performance in the drama, Fences.

Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck took the best actor in a drama ahead of Australia's Joel Edgerton for his performance in Loving.
Moonlight won the best film drama Globe at Sunday's ceremony which was highlighted by a passionate speech by Meryl Streep.
She lambasted US president-elect Donald Trump while accepting the Cecille B DeMille Award lifetime achievement award.

She noted the incident where 'the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country' imitated a disabled reporter from The New York Times.
'It kind of broke my heart when I saw it,' she said. 'I still can't get it out of my head, because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life.'
Streep said that 'when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.'
Sunday's ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
