Guests at the Golden Globes were surprised with a special message from President Barack Obama.
In the 74th year of the awards, attendees opened up their show programs to find an inspiring letter penned by the current president.
Obama thanked the night's nominees for devoting their talents to help celebrate human triumphs and to illustrate flaws.
The ceremony celebrating film and television 'creative visionaries' marks the last major award show Obama will be in office for.

The encouraging letter sent by the president reads: 'Michelle and I send greetings to all those attending the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards.
'Film and television have captured our understanding of society. Using the big and small screens to bring diverse tales to life, actors and actresses and creative visionaries behind the scenes have inspired us to find deeper meaning in our shared humanity.'
'Tonight's nominees have devoted their talents to helping us celebrate our triumphs and illustrate our flaws.
'By enabling us to see ourselves in each other and creating a space for the many narratives that reflect our rich and collective history, they remind us of the power and ideas and the ways they can shape our world for the better.
'As you gather to recognize this year's nominees, I wish you all the best for a memorable evening.'

His uplifting words of encouragement were directed to the stars of Hollywood, from whom Obama has received tremendous support from during his eight years in office.
Dozens of the celebrities at the Golden Globes also attended Obama's farewell party where guests partied with the president on Friday.
The VIP guest list included A-listers in the film and TV industry such as Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.
Obama provided hungry guests with chicken and waffles and was still on the dance floor at 3.30am when Scandal actress Kerry Washington left the bash.
She added to E! News host Ryan Seacrest: 'He deserves a party, don't you think?'
