Amethyst Baird, 31, (top right) is charged with attempted murder after she opened fire on Tyler Wheeler, 25, (left, with his wife Haley) during the stop at around 2am on Saturday morning in the north east Louisiana parish of Morehouse. Wheeler was rushed to hospital with five gunshot wounds including one to the temple and one the jaw. Doctors were concerned that he could have sustained life-changing brain injuries in the shooting. But Wheeler's father Darren reports that his son is making a good recovery and that his doctor feels 'very positive' about his son's condition. Jeremy Gullette, 34, (bottom right) was also arrested as an accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder, State Police said in a news release.

As the debate goes on about who will dress Melania during the next four years in the White House, it looks like her options are growing as designers become increasingly interested. Although designers like Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs have said that they don't want her wearing their designs, other designers are chomping at the bit for the opportunity to dress the First Lady-to-be. The video was published by the White House the day before dozens of A-listers flocked to the nation's capital where the Obamas hosted a celeb-filled farewell party on Friday night at the White House. Leonardo DiCaprio (inset), Tom Hanks, Jerry Seinfeld (main left), Ellen DeGeneres, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant,John Legend, Kerry Washington (inset), Samuel L. Jackson and more all lent their voices to give 55-year-old Obama a heartwarming and touching tribute.

A father-or-two who choked on a piece of meat at a New Year's Eve party tragically died Saturday afternoon at a Nebraska hospital surrounded by his family. Brian O'Neill, 51, circled left, was attending a New Year's Eve party at Provisions by The Grey Plume, pictured right, with his wife Joan when the food became lodged in his throat just before midnight, rendering him unconscious. Four party goers attempted to save him using the Heimlich maneuver before his friend, a doctor, performed an emergency tracheotomy with a steak knife.

The Queen, 90, attended the church service at Sandringham, after missing the traditional Christmas and New Year's services for the first time due to ill health. The monarch was seen arriving by car (left) at St Mary Magdalene Church with a blue blanket over her lap just before 11am this morning. She was accompanied by Prince Philip, 95, who has also been recovering from a heavy cold. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (right), who celebrates her 35th birthday tomorrow, walked to church this morning from Sandringham House. A Florida school teacher has told of how she was protected during the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting by a stranger who covered her body with his own, even as killer stood right next to them. Annika Dean (pictured left with her sons), 42, a mother of two from Broward County, was waiting for her luggage around 1pm on Friday when she saw gunman Esteban Santiago, 26, walking towards her with a pistol.  She dropped to the floor as the gunman advanced, firing into the fleeing crowds - but was protected by a stranger, Tony Bartosiewicz (right), who shielded her body with his own, the Miami Herald reported.

Golden Globes organizers are getting prepared for the largest storm to hit California in a decade, as the famed red carpet is set to be covered by a tent to protect Hollywood's elite from the forthcoming wet weather. The 74th Golden Globes Awards will kick off in a few hours at The Beverly Hilton, where dozens of A-listers are set to walk the red carpet showing off their expensive gowns and tuxedos. But as celebrities are likely well underway getting dressed for the event, organizers for the Golden Globes are making sure the iconic hotel and red carpet is fortified and protected from potential rain that is expected to hit southern California at some point Sunday evening.

Police have released an Amber alert for two missing boys, believed to have been kidnapped by their mother, in Englewood, Colorado. Johnny Dinapoli, 8, and Joseph, 12, were last seen at their grandfather's house on 4900 block of South Galapago Street around 5:30am when they went outside to retrieve something from his car. When he went to the door to check on them, he saw their mother Rebecca Dinapoli, right, pulling out of the driveway in a silver Chevy Equinox with the boys inside.

Born at a private clinic on December 30, the Honourable Henry Thynn - a second grandson for the 7th Marquess of Bath - will soon be tucked up safely in his ancestral home, the magnificent Longleat House, Wiltshire. The miracle that is modern medicine means Henry is almost certainly the first member of the British aristocracy to have been born by surrogacy, in this case using one of his mother's eggs and his father's sperm, a process overseen more than 5,000 miles away from rural Wiltshire in the pristine surroundings of a Californian medical facility.

Five inmates were hospitalized after a brawl at a Chicago super-maximum security jail on Friday afternoon. Their conditions range from serious to critical. Four of the five men hospitalized were at Cook County Jail awaiting trial on murder charges. Some of the injuries include puncture wounds, possibly from two recovered weapons that were made from parts of inhalers. The fight was caught on tape and officials quickly brought the situation under control.

Police are seeking Caitlyn Neiswanger's husband, Michael Marlovitz, right, as a person of interest in relation to her suspicious death. Her body was found in a home in Batavia, Illinois Friday. The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva showing no sign of external injury, she is pictured circled left and inset.

A British mother has pleaded with youngsters to avoid taking Ecstasy - after posting pictures of her teenage daughter in a coma after she popped a pill. In posts that have now got viral, devastated mum Kerry Robinson took to social media site Facebook to explicitly reveal the shocking dangers of taking the drug. And she added to her warning by showing her own 16 year-old daughter Leah in a hospital coma after taking Ecstasy over Christmas. Mrs Robinson explained how her family's own scare with Ecstasy came after Leah took what was believed to be the drug at a local party.

A woman has miraculously survived being sandwiched between two cars after a speeding joyrider, who tried to flee the scene immediately, smashed into her by a busy road. Kanta Anand, 40, was walking out of her home in Delhi, India, when the 17-year-old driver ploughed into her. She is then dragged more than 50 yards by the white MUV car before horror footage shows it ramming into a black vehicle pulling out of a junction.Incredibly she only suffered a fractured hip and following surgery is now stable in hospital.

An $800,000 yacht up for auction with a $1 reserve has attracted its female seller in New Zealand a marriage proposal, swaps for land a top bid of more than half a million with a week to go on the sale. Fiona Campbell (inset) is selling the Ruah (pictured), a former Australian Navy boat with a luxurious refit. She bought the 1944 vessel for her ex-husband but she's aiming for a fresh start in 2017 and wants the 20-metre boat gone. Currently berthed in Wellington, the Ruah has six cabins, beds for 14 people, two showers and all the creature comforts of a house - as well as the seaworthiness to cross the Tasman in heavy seas.

A leopard soars through the air with her front legs spread like wings as she hunts a warthog. The female predator almost seemed to be flying as she pounced on her prey. The leopard had been stalking the unsuspecting warthog and followed him out of sight into the bushes. Suddenly the two animals burst from the bush, with the leopard in pursuit of the wild pig, who realised he could not outrun his pursuer and turned to confront her. The creatures then faced each other in a tense two minute stand-off, before the big cat pounced. Photographer Peter Thompson captured these breathtaking action shots in the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.

Staffordshire terrier cross Kuta, circled in red, loves the ocean. She feels at home paddling with the dolphins at Esperance, off the West Australian coast. The two-year-old rescue dog also befriended a seal. Her owner Erin Cummings, pictured inset with Kuta, takes her paddleboarding every morning and occasionally has to call her to come back in.

Sitting atop the Hongshui River in the Luodian County of southwest China, the vast pathway, pictured, opened on New Year's Day to a flurry of fireworks, and has so far attracted more than 60,000 tourists. During the day, tourists can enjoy various entertainment displays and partake in water sports, while at night, the entire floating spectacle - which would take the average human ten hours to walk the length of - turns into a dazzling light parade, bottom left.
