Nicole Kidman reflects on her first ever Golden Globes 26 years ago when Tom Cruise was her date... while first time nominee Joel Edgerton will be up for Best Actor

You'd think Nicole Kidman may have gotten used to her name being called out at awards shows by now, but the Aussie actress is still humbled by the experience.

While her Best Supporting Actress nod for Lion at Monday's Golden Globes marks her tenth nomination, Nicole hasn't forgotten the very first time she walked the red carpet at the coveted ceremony.

New to Hollywood and newly married to superstar Tom Cruise, whom she had wed on Christmas Eve, 1990, Nicole attended her first Golden Globes in 1992.

Then and now: Nicole Kidman has reflected on her first Golden Globes in 1992 when she was new to Hollywood and newly married to superstar Tom Cruise (L), while she'll attend this year's award's show with husband of ten years, Keith Urban, and up for her tenth nomination (R, pictured in 2013)

At the time, she was nominated for a film in which she starred opposite Dustin Hoffman and Nicole tells The Sydney Morning Herald she was amazed to even be part of the shindig.

'The first time I went to the Golden Globes, I was nominated for Billy Bathgate and I couldn't believe anyone even knew who I was,'  the 49-year-old told the paper.

'So to get nominated was just stunning to me,' she added.

The then-redhead with corkscrew curls looked shy as she towered over her new husband in a velvet mini-dress, which was the height of 1990s fashion.

Nicole isn't the only Aussie celebrating an awards season success this week.

Aussie actor Joel Edgerton has landed his first ever Golden Globe nomination, in the Best Actor category, for his role in the drama Loving.

While the Black Mass star has attended many award ceremonies, it seems he's never been to the Globes before and will be a first time nominee.

He told the Sydney Morning Herald: 'I've never been before but it feels exciting to be recognized in this category because they are all actors I admire greatly.'

The-42-year-old is up against the likes of Viggo Mortensen, Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington.
