The rise of baby bling! How men are following Kanye West’s lead and splashing out on VERY expensive rings for their wives to mark the birth of their first child
- More and more men are buying their wives rings to mark the birth of their child
- Jewellers have seen a 150 per cent sales spike in the last six months
- Celebrities from Kanye West to Marc Anthony have splashed thousands
- But UK jewellers say affordable alternatives are flying off the shelves
Women waiting for their partners to get down on one knee may now have to wait a little longer.
According to experts, engagement rings are out and baby bling is in, as men fork out thousands on expensive bands for their wives to mark the birth of their children.
Once the preserve of the stars and the super rich, the trend has made its way over the pond and is now sweeping UK households.
Kanye West is rumoured to have splashed more than £600,000 on a rare diamond ring for Kim Kardashian when their daughter North was born in 2013 - before the pair were engaged
Jewellers have seen a huge spike in fathers gifting the new mother of their child with a ring on the safe arrival of their newborn baby.
Joining the likes of Kanye West, who is rumoured to have splashed more than £600,000 on a rare diamond ring for Kim Kardashian on their daughter's birth - before he had even got down on one knee - there is now a growing market for slightly more affordable baby bling.
Savvy jewellers are now designing bands specifically with the celebration of a new birth in mind, with Jewlr.co.uk reporting a rapid 150 per cent surge in 'Mother's jewellery' sales in the last six months alone.
Jewlr founder Tony Davis told FEMAIL: 'A piece of "mother's jewellery" is a wonderful way for a father to show his admiration and appreciation to his wife or partner for having carried their baby for nine months.
Jay-Z treated Beyoncé to a '10-carat blue diamond ring' after their daughter, Blue Ivy, was born. The rapper is believed to have bought the blue ring in honour of their child's name
'There is no need to spend a fortune but the more personal the better.'
Davis says pieces like their 'baby foot rings', which can be customised and engraved with the baby's birth date, are now flying off the shelves.
Parents investing in baby bling will be in good company; from Jay-Z to Ben Affleck, a string of stars have treated their partners to eye-wateringly expensive rocks.
FEMAIL reveals the celebrities who have splashed out on baby bling worth millions.
