Is this the friendliest car yet? Toyota unveils its driverless Concept-I which comes with 'Yui' - an AI assistant that learns your preferences
- Toyota unveiled the concept car this week at the CES technology show in Las Vegas
- The design is based on 'kinetic warmth' - the belief that technology should be warm, welcoming and fun
- The car can either be driven autonomously or manually depending on personal preference
- An AI assistant called Yui will learn the driver's preferences and adjust the car accordingly
With a slick white and gold exterior and subtle blue lighting throughout, this futuristic car wouldn't look out of place in the latest science fiction blockbuster.
The vehicle is Toyota's Concept-I car, and it claims to represent a friendlier, people-focused approach to future mobility.
While the car is only a concept and is not on sale, it gives a glimpse into the firm's vision for the future of automobiles.

The Concept-I was unveiled at the CES technology show in Las Vegas, and was produced by the firm's CALTY design centre in California.
The basic philosophy for the design is 'kinetic warmth' - the belief that mobility technology should be warm, welcoming and fun.
Bob Carter, Senior Vice President of Automotive Operations at Toyota, said: 'At Toyota we recognise that the important question isn't whether future vehicles will be equipped with automated or connected technologies, it is the experience of the people who engage with those vehicles.
'Thanks to Concept-i and the power of artificial intelligence, we think the future is a vehicle that can engage with people in return.'
Under certain conditions, people will be able to choose automated or manual driving, according to personal preference.
The car will monitor driver attention and road conditions, so that it can increase automated driving to support the driver, or help navigate dangerous conditions.
Toyota has introduced a new advanced AI system, nicknamed 'Yui' to anticipate its owners needs, and improve their lives.
The vehicle's exterior is also adapted to enable the car to engage with the world around it. Yui appears on the door panels to welcome drivers and passengers as they approach the vehicle
A user interface will open with a visual representation of Yui, designed to communicate across cultures and connect with a global audience.
The interior makes use of light, sound and even touch to help the driver to communicate with Yui.
Instead of using screens on the centre console, information can be received anywhere in the car that it is needed, whether it's in the back, or front.

Footwells are lit by coloured lights which indicate whether the vehicle is in automated or manual drive, while projectors in the back relay images on the seats to warn about blind spots.

Meanwhile, the rear of the car will display messages about upcoming turns or hazards to other vehicles.
The car shown at CES is only a concept, and it is unclear whether Toyota plans to make a version of the Concept-I to sell in the future.
