A contestant on the ITV show The Chase has been hailed as one of the best players ever to take part by fans, after winning a huge £50,000 for his team by answering question after question in the final round.

Terry, an IT consultant and avid poker player from Croydon, South London helped his team set a target of £61,000 after they answered 22 questions in the final round.

And when regular Chaser Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty failed to match them after running out of time, they were able to walk away with the staggering total.

Viewers watching the ITV daytime quiz show were astonished at how clever contestant Terry was and labelled him the 'best ever player'

The rapid speed in which Terry steamed through questions asked by presenter Bradley Walsh stunned viewers, with one declaring: 'Terry on the chase is a quiz genius!'

'"The Telminator" should give up poker and just play pub quiz machines. The man is a pro! £55,000 in the bank and two players safe,' another said.

'Terry possibly the best ever player I've ever seen on The Chase!!! Them two women should give him a good seeing to. 20K each!' joked one.

Despite Anne Hegerty being able to answer who Peter Andre's first wife was (Katie Price), she stumbled over the answer to the question, 'what animal did bullfighters known as toreadors originally ride?'.

Anne Hegerty knew when she was beaten and even praised Terry for being so good, she later tweeted saying he was 'outstanding'

She answered 'donkey', which was wrong, and was then thrown to the team with Terry correctly saying, 'I reckon it's probably horses'.

Anne failed twice more pushing up the number of questions she had to answer to beat the team.

As she got back into her stride Anne managed to reach 18 questions before time ran out and the players jumped for joy at the result.

Bradley informed them they were each taking home £20,333.33 each.

Anne conceded saying: 'I don't think I could have done more there, I just ran out of time. Absolutely superb, and seriously Terry you are very, very good.'

She later tweeted after the show saying: 'Terry could be playing at international level in a couple of years. Outstanding quizzer.'
