Move over naked cakes, there's a new culinary wedding trend: cable knit cakes.

The trend, which is inspired by classic cable knit jumpers celebrities like Taylor Swift and Elle McPherson are fond of, has become more and more popular in the last year.

The style tries to recreate the pattern and texture of the knitted style with icing, leading to some incredible designs.

Forget naked cakes: Cable knit culinary creations are the newest trend in wedding cakes

Cosy: Inspired by the jumper pattern, cable knit cakes are detailed and stunning

Unlike naked cakes, where less is more, cable knit cakes are all about the detail.

Most of the time the icing colour is kept simple, in a traditional cream or a white, to put further emphasis on the woven design.

Rather than some of the over-the-top designs of cakes covered in salted caramel and chocolate that are all over Instagram, cable knit cakes are more pared back.

Two in one: Other designs combine the cable knit trend with the naked cake trend to create a stunning combined cake

Differences: Some designs focus only vertical woven patterns, which others add other embellishments

The intricate patterns on the cakes can take hours to complete, with a steady hand required.

One bakery, Le Dolci in Toronto, even published a video showing the technique they use to create the look.

As well as Le Dolci, other bakeries like Cake and Giraffe in Vancouver and Honey Crumb Cakes in Seattle, also specialise in the look.

Fresh: While some are simpler and include woodland elements

Up and coming: The design would fit in well with a traditional country wedding, or even cosy winter nuptials.

One couple who opted for a cable knit cake chose the design to fit in with their Nordic themed wedding day.
