They've kept a low profile since arriving in Australia for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

But Bobby Cannavale was happy to share a photo from his trip to the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland with girlfriend Rose Byrne on Friday.

The Boardwalk Empire star, 46, took to Instagram to post a candid snap while kissing his partner-of-four-years on the cheek.

In the post, Bobby shows his affection to Rose, who smiles and looks radiant make-up free with a towel wrapped around her head.

He captioned the post: 'My beautiful lady @maryrosebyrne and I went to the Great Barrier Reef today!'

However, missing in the picture was the couple's 11-month-old son Rocco.

The New York-based family is currently in Sydney, while Rose films the Hollywood adaptation of Peter Rabbit.

She is set to play to lead role of Bea and said she is 'thrilled' to be doing a movie for her son at the AACTAs in December.

'It is one for Rocco so I'm thrilled and I feel very lucky to be home and working,' she told The Daily Telegraph.

She stars alongside Margot Robbie, Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley and late night TV host James Cordon, who plays Peter Rabbit.

The film is produced by Will Gluck, who Rose previously worked with on the 2014 remake of the musical Annie, and will be released in 2018.

She previously said: 'I am curious about how it will be reinvented but it will be fun.'
