Empowering young people to stay safe.

The RNLI saves lives at sea. But beyond the work we do on our lifeboats and beaches, we’re an active part of the community too.

Our outreach work means we can help pupils of all ages to learn about water safety. We educate children through visits and talks from our trained volunteers and lifeguards. We give them the knowledge they need to stay safe and inspire them by sharing the lifesaving work of RNLI volunteers, past and present.

Invite an RNLI education volunteer to your school, youth group or setting.

Enjoy one of our interactive presentations delivered by an experienced speaker. Topics can include sea and beach safety, how lifeboat rescues work, the history of the RNLI, the work of a charity, volunteering and much more.

These can be arranged at your school or club, or at the beach if this is appropriate.

RNLI education event, Education volunteer helping.

Our trained volunteers can attend a variety of events where they’ll run water safety talks and RNLI-themed activities. We can come to fetes, Life Skills workshops or any other type of event you might be planning.

Young people can learn about beach safety in one of our short, active group sessions. Our team can also offer a range of hands-on creative and educational activities based on saving lives at sea.

Whatever your needs, we can tailor our service to suit you. Just tell us about your event and what you’d like us to do.

Come and visit one of our museums

We have a number of museums for you to visit around the UK and these can help bring alive the RNLI's long and exciting history to your school or youth group.

Heritage workshopBring the past to life in your classroom or youth group with a visit from an RNLI heritage education volunteer. Your young people will be inspired by our stories of epic rescues by volunteer lifesavers. These sessions can be tailored to your needs and link to a diverse range of topics including heroes and heroines, people who help us, the seaside, lighthouses and local history studies.

Arrange a visit and see what it’s like for crew members volunteering there. You’ll see what they do and hear some of their rescue stories. Our station visits are a lot of fun and your class will even get a look at our lifesaving craft!

All you need to do is find the name of the lifeboat station you are interested in visiting. Use those details to get in touch with the station manager and they will be happy to arrange it for you.

Or if you want to learn about the work of RNLI lifeguards, you can organise a beach visit. Our trained lifeguards can talk to your pupils about how to stay safe in and around the water.
