We're not going to lie - when we heard about the new DC Super Hero Girls Lego sets, we got pretty excited.

I mean, it's about time, right?

According to Lego, the DC Super Hero Girls sets feature a high-school based storyline – and some of our favourite and fiercest characters.

"We are really thrilled to bring to life the combination of teamwork, fun and action-packed missions found in this DC Super Hero universe on our LEGO minidoll platform," said Jill Wilfert, vice president licensing and entertainment for the LEGO Group, in a statement.

Inspiring girls (and boys of course) aged 7 -10 years to be "smart, courageous and courteous" the line features 11 new female DC characters: Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bumblebee, Flash, Eclipso, Lena Luther, Lashina, and Mad Harriet.

Have a look at these life-size versions of Super Girl and Harley Quinn, which were unveiled at New York Comic Con.

And here's a glimpse of Wonder Woman:

"Capturing these strong, brave and powerful characters and empowering storylines, children around the world can now work on their super building powers as they play and rebuild together with their favourite DC Super Hero characters" said Kelly Gilmore, Senior Vice President of Global Toys for Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

How soon can we – I mean our kids – have a set of their own? DC Super Hero Girls launches globally in January 2017.

You can watch introductions about the characters of Super Hero High on their website.

There's even an extremely catchy theme song: "Get Your Cape On".
