They are Colombia’s longest-operating guerilla group. Since 1964, the FARC have been fighting government forces and carrying out public attacks in Latin America’s longest conflict. Now they want peace. Correspondent Toby Muse takes us to the place he calls “FARClandia.”
Toby travels deep inside the Colombian jungle to an encampment for the FARC. He tours their grounds which feature underground bunkers and a volleyball court. He also observes how they live on a day-to-day basis.
Toby interviews members of the much-talked-about but little-seen rebel group. The FARC, or the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, are currently nearing the end of peace talks with the Colombian government that began in 2012. If the two sides can come to an agreement, the FARC has said they will lay down their arms.

After waging a 52-year-long insurgency against the authorities in Bogota, Colombia’s FARC guerilla agreed to finally end the bloody conflict that has cost tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions. Under the deal, the former rebels have vowed to lay down their arms and instead fight their cause as a political party. But how easily can the 7,000 FARC members adjust to this new way of life? Our reporter ventured into the Colombian jungle to find out.
Columbia's civil war has been one of the longest in modern times and so the peace deal struck between its government and the FARC guerilla marked an historic event. But how do you go from war to peace overnight? And how do you become an ordinary citizen when all you know is the life of a guerilla fighter?
Our correspondent, Pascale Mariani, travelled deep into Colombia’s jungle to meet some of the men and women who have been fighting for FARC’s Front 57 unit. For decades, they have sacrificed everything they have to serve the Marxist rebel group’s cause: their lives, their families and even their own free will. So what happens when they no longer have anything to sacrifice for? How will they be able to reconstruct a life mostly spent in the war trench?

Voters in Colombia have rejected a landmark peace deal with Farc rebels in a shock referendum result, with 50.2% voting against it.
The deal was signed last week by President Juan Manuel Santos and Farc leader Timoleon Jimenez after nearly four years of negotiations. But it needed to be ratified by Colombians in order to come into force.

FARC
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army (Spanish: Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia—Ejército del Pueblo, FARC–EP and FARC) is a guerrilla movement involved in the continuing Colombian armed conflict since 1964. It has been known to employ a variety of military tactics in addition to more unconventional methods, including terrorism. The FARC–EP claim to be an army of peasant Marxist–Leninists with a political platform of agrarianism and anti-imperialism. The operations of the FARC–EP are funded by kidnap and ransom; illegal mining;extortion and/or taxation of various forms of economic activity; and the taxation, production, and distribution of illegal drugs.
The strength of the FARC–EP forces is indeterminate; in 2007, the FARC said they were an armed force of 18,000 men and women; in 2010, the Colombian military calculated that FARC forces consisted of approximately 13,800 members, 50 percent of whom were armed guerrilla combatants; and, in 2011, the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, said that FARC–EP forces comprised fewer than 10,000 members. In 2013 it was reported that 26,648 FARC and ELN members had decided to demobilize since 2002. According to a report from Human Rights Watch, approximately 20–30% of the recruits are minors, most of whom are forced to join the FARC. The greatest concentrations of FARC forces are in the southeastern regions of Colombia's 500,000 square kilometers (190,000 sq mi) of jungle, in the plains at the base of the Andean mountain chain and in northwestern Colombia. However, the FARC and the ELN (National Liberation Army of Colombia) lost control of the territory, forcing them to hide primarily in remote areas in the jungle.

Toby travels deep inside the Colombian jungle to an encampment for the FARC. He tours their grounds which feature underground bunkers and a volleyball court. He also observes how they live on a day-to-day basis.

Under the deal, the former rebels have vowed to lay down their arms and instead fight their cause as a political party. But how easily can the 7,000 FARC members adjust to this new way of life? Our reporter ventured into the Colombian jungle to find out.
Columbia's civil war has been one of the longest in modern times and so the peace deal struck between its government and the FARC guerilla marked an historic event. But how do you go from war to peace overnight? And how do you become an ordinary citizen when all you know is the life of a guerilla fighter?
Our correspondent, Pascale Mariani, travelled deep into Colombia’s jungle to meet some of the men and women who have been fighting for FARC’s Front 57 unit. For decades, they have sacrificed everything they have to serve the Marxist rebel group’s cause: their lives, their families and even their own free will. Since 2012, it’s been in peace talks with the government. Quiero dejar claro por qué subo este documental sin que tengan que juzgarme a-priori por lo que no he dicho al hacerlo. Es claro que un mensaje implícito habré de mandar al compartirlo. Pero NO ES EL QUE MÁS SIMPLÍSTICAMENTE SE PUEDEN IMAGINAR: QUE SOY GUERRILLERO, AFECTO A ESTA GUERRILLA EN PARTICULAR, O QUE RECIBO ALGÚN TIPO DE COMPENSACIÓN DE SU PARTE. Colombia is a country that has been at war for more than 50 years, due to a social model that benefits the oligarchic minority and at the expense of the poor majorities, who suffer exclusion and violence. This excluding society is being led by a narco-state, financed and supported by the North American government.
The mass graves, the false positives (assassinations of innocent people by the repressive forces of the state, falsely accusing them of being guerrilla fighters), tortures and violations to peasants, because of being "supporters" of the guerrilla movement (Colombia is ranked second in the world for displaced population, as a result of state and paramilitary violence); threats, persecution and repression to political dissidence; it's every day's bread for our sister nation Colombia. Colombians live in a country with a terrorist government where human rights don't exist.
In the middle of this capitalist and patriarch reality, women face all kinds of oppression: economic, sexual, intellectual, among others. In Colombia, there is almost no women's participation on different government levels, and it's almost impossible for women from the Left to do legal politics. That's why every day more women join the oldest guerrilla of Latin America. They decide to fight for their freedom with the ideal of constructing a society of peace with social justice, that is, a socialist society.
This reality is hidden or manipulated by the media, who are at the service of the big capital which has its tentacles spread out over Colombia. These media companies have demonized and stigmatized the female guerrilla fighters of the FARC-EP as sexual slaves of their comandantes.
To help breaking down the media blockade and manipulation is the mission of this documentary, in order to show the real life of the revolutionary women of the FARC-EP.
