Managing Director, Australian Publishing Media

Allen Williams

Before being appointed Managing Director – Australian Publishing Media, Allen was Chief Executive Officer, Fairfax New Zealand Limited. During this time there he oversaw New Zealand’s leading media company reaching 84.5% or 2.9 million people with its various brands and multi-media platforms.

Prior to this Allen led a number of Fairfax Media’s operations across rural, regional and metropolitan markets in Australia and the United States. He returned to the company in 2007 following the Rural Press Limited merger with Fairfax Media.

Across his career, Allen has worked at News Limited, Australian Consolidated Press and The Asher Joel Media Group. He is currently a Director of the Newspaper Publishers Association Board of Control and the Newspaper Advertising Bureau.

 
 

Commercial Director, Australia Publishing Media

Tom Armstrong

Tom Armstrong is responsible for the commercial operations of Fairfax Media’s Australian Publishing Media; including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review.

A senior broadcast and digital media executive with extensive global experience, Tom joined Fairfax Media from Viacom International Media Networks in the United Kingdom, where he was Vice President of Global Digital Ad Sales & Business Development.

Prior to Viacom, Tom was the Vice President of Commercial and Digital Media at MTV Networks in Australia. Tom has also worked as the Commercial Director for Nordic and Emerging Markets at Discovery Networks Europe and was also International Sales Manager at Two Way TV.

 
 

Group Director, News & Business Media, Australian Publishing Media

Sean Aylmer

Sean is the Group Director of News & Business Media at Fairfax, responsible for all editorial and commercial aspects of The
Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Boss, BRW, Smart Investor and Business Day.

Prior to this role, Sean was Editor-in-Chief of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald, responsible for all digital and print platforms. He oversaw the digital transformation of the newsroom, the shift to the compact newspaper format, the introduction of a metered model for digital content, the new homepage for the website, and the expansion of the masthead’s tablet and smartphone offerings.

Sean joined Fairfax Media in 1997. He is an experienced writer and commentator who trained as an economist and worked for the Reserve Bank of Australia before shifting to journalism. Sean is also a director of Cure Our Kids, a paediatric oncology charity based at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
