MMA Hour producer makes brilliant Conor McGregor analogy

UFC lightweight champ "Notorious" Conor McGregor (21-3) takes these words to heart: You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.

There's no other rhyme or reason that could explain why the Irishman readily stepped up to show off his awful basketball shooting form in front of dozens of fans and media members at Madison Square Garden, following the UFC 205 open workouts. On the same floor that basketball greats such as Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony and Patrick Ewing has graced, McGregor took a cringe-worthy shot -- with absolutely no technique -- from long-range.

Let's be honest: Things could have gone terribly wrong for the "Notorious" one. An air ball would have been a bit embarrassing, making him look goofy, unprofessional and uncoordinated. With so many media members on hand, a bad miss definitely would have been reported on and viewed worldwide. The thing is, an air ball didn't happen.

Shockingly, despite his horrendous form, the champ knocked down the shot, sinking a three-pointer for the ages. He rolled up acting like Reggie Miller from beyond the arc, and nailed it as if he's the second coming of Steph Curry. McGregor sunk one, even though he went against literally every fundamental of the basic basketball shooting form.

The champ took his shot while keeping his feet together, and without spacing between his hands. It was the kind of shooting form that a child would use, but the UFC star still nailed it. Eric Jackman, producer of The MMA Hour podcast, thinks the entire situation is fitting of McGregor's character. Jackman stated on Ariel Helwani's show that the shot summed up the champ's story "in a nutshell."

Is he right? For sure. No one else on the UFC roster wanted to embarrass themselves by missing a shot at the "World's Most Famous Arena." McGregor was the one guy to step up, show no fear and take a risk. He's living, breathing proof that you miss every shot you don't take in life.
