The given name Eric, Erik, or Erick is derived from the Old Norse name Eiríkr (or Eríkr in Eastern Scandinavia due to monophthongization). The first element, ei- is derived either from the older Proto-Norse *aina(z) meaning "one" or "alone" or from Proto-Norse *aiwa(z) meaning "ever" or "eternal". The second element -ríkr derives either from *rík(a)z meaning "ruler" or "prince" (cf. Gothic reiks) or from an even older Proto-Germanic *ríkiaz which meant "powerful" and "rich". The name is thus usually taken to mean "one ruler", "autocrat", "eternal ruler" or "ever powerful", "warrior", and "government".
The most common spelling in Scandinavia is Erik. In Norway, another form of the name (which has kept the Old Norse diphthong) Eirik is also commonly used. In Finland, the form Erkki is also used. The modern Icelandic version is Eiríkur, while the modern Faroese version is Eirikur. Éric [eʁik] is used in French, and in Germany Eric, Erik and Erich are used.
Although the name was in use in Anglo-Saxon England, its use was reinforced by Scandinavian settlers arriving before the Norman Invasion. It was an uncommon name in England until the Middle Ages, when it gained popularity, and finally became a common name in the 19th century. This was partly because of the publishing of the novel Eric, or, Little by Little by Frederick William Farrar in 1858.
Nanci Caroline Griffith (born July 6, 1953) is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter, reared in Austin, Texas, who currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Griffith was born in Seguin, Texas, and her career has spanned a variety of musical genres, predominantly country, folk, and what she terms "folkabilly." Griffith won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 1994 for her recording, Other Voices, Other Rooms. This album features Griffith covering the songs of artists who are her major influences. One of her better-known songs is "From a Distance," which was written and composed by Julie Gold, although Bette Midler's version achieved greater commercial success. Similarly, other artists have occasionally achieved greater success than Griffith herself with songs that she wrote or co-wrote. For example, Kathy Mattea had a country music top five hit with a 1986 cover of Griffith's "Love at the Five and Dime" and Suzy Bogguss had one of her largest hits with Griffith's and Tom Russell's "Outbound Plane".

From Eric's new album, "Live At The Red Shack", a live retrospective featuring guests such as Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith and others, "Dean Moriarty" is a song based on the character in Kerouac's "On The Road", based on Neal Cassady. Speaking of the album, Mike Penard of American Roots Music (ISA Radio, France) says, "I have rarely listened to a live album with such a sound ...Eric 's voice on all these so good songs and the sound of the electric guitar create a very unique atmosphere ... honestly this CD will last as something unique, it is magical, it is an extraordinary moment, in the literal meaning of the word. It is pure beauty." Eric Taylor is a sage musician, a lyrical genius and a master of the guitar. If you're familiar with the intricate Texas singer/ songwriter jigsaw puzzle...

Singer/songwriter Eric Taylor shared his anecdotal musical and storytelling style in true Texas form. His humbleness and poetic truth telling towered over the audience as they were charmed by his carnie drawl and the rhythmic tones of his guitar. Eric Taylor is the the genuine article; square deal. This performance was recorded on August 4, 2014 at Fountain Point on Lake Leelanau, the historic 1889 waterfront resort in northwest lower Michigan.
Eric Taylor has a new CD called "Studio 10" coming out in June of 2013, and it has "Bill" on it, his tribute to his friend, the late Bill Morrissey. This video contains an early rendition of the song and is used with permission. BILL MORRISSEY (November 25, 1951 -- July 23, 2011) was an American folk singer/songwriter from New Hampshire (born in Hartford, Connecticut). Many of his songs reflect the harsh realities of life in crumbling New England mill towns. He had a unique way of creating spare, powerful and literate songs, and he continues to be held in high esteem by other writers in the realm. About the process of writing a song, Bill once said, "It's like a Polaroid being developed, and suddenly you realize, 'Oh, that's what he looks like, that's what kind of a guy he is.' My charac...
