Man arrested after lighting fire in Perth bank during robbery attempt

A 30-year-old man has been charged after becoming aggressive with staff members and demanding money at a Perth bank on Friday.

Police descended on the Bankwest William Street branch around 9am and reportedly pinned the man to the ground as he yelled and protested his arrest.

It will be alleged he entered the bank and was acting aggressively towards staff before intimating he was carrying a firearm, smashing a TV screen and setting paper on fire.

He has been charged with criminal damage, criminal damage by fire, possess drug paraphernalia, trespass and act creating false apprehension as to existence of threat or danger.

The bank was closed on Friday as police investigated the incident.

The incident comes after a man in his 60s was arrested in October after entering Bankwest's Murray Street branch and demanding money from a teller while suggesting he had a weapon.
