Justin Timberlake earned a Golden Globe Award nomination this week for "Can't Stop The Feeling!" but he has something else to celebrate about the song: according to a press release it's officially been declared the number one best-selling single of the year. If you somehow still haven't heard it, or just want to replay it, you can do so now by using the media player included with this article.

"Can't Stop The Feeling" was recorded as the single for the DreamWorks Animation movie "Trolls". Its music video has more than 315 million views on YouTube since it was released six months ago; and the press release says the song has sold almost seven and a half million track equivalents, including 2.4 million units sold in the United States and 700 million streams around the world. It currently remains at No. 47 on the iTunes Singles Chart.

The song has received considerable critical acclaim as well. Timberlake picked up a Golden Globe nomination on Monday for Best Original Song and previously earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Song Written For Visual Media. "Can't Stop The Feeling!" also earned nominations at the Critics' Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards. Billboard also ranked it No. 33 on their recent list of 100 Best Pop Songs of 2016.

Essentially if you've been listening to pop music this year, you haven't been able to get away from this song. There's a good reason for that, though; it's an upbeat, slickly produced, well-performed single that was intended specifically not to get out of anyone's head. "Can't Stop The Feeling!" is the latest - and probably one of, if not the most successful - example of how music and film have long gone hand in hand. Almost every major motion picture has a tie-in single now as the star power of music artists helps draw attention to films, and is an easy way for artists like Timberlake to further sell songs.

The success of "Can't Stop The Feeling!" is certainly another nice feather in the cap of Timberlake, who also voiced the main character in "Trolls," which is headed to Blu-Ray and DVD (a specific release date has yet to be announced). Now the question for music fans is what will he follow it up with in 2017?
