Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger (who turns 73 on July 26, 2016) is having a child with American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 26, whom he has been dating since 2014. The baby will be Jagger's eighth child and Hamrick's first. The Sun first reported the news on July 14, and Billboard confirmed it. Hamrick is reportedly about three months pregnant, which means the baby is expected to be born in early 2017.

Jagger's seven other children include daughter Karis (born in 1970 from his relationship with singer/actress Marsha Hunt), daughter Jade (born in 1971, from his marriage to his first wife, Bianca) and son Lucas (born in 1999, from his relationship with Luciana Gimenez). Jagger has four children with supermodel Jerry Hall: daughter Elizabeth "Lizzie" Scarlett (born in 1983); son James (born in 1985); daughter Georgia May (born in 1992); and son Gabriel (born in 1997). Hall and Jagger began dating in 1977, and their relationship ended in 1999 after Gimenez became pregnant. Although Jagger and Hall had a marriage ceremony in 1990, after the couple broke up, a court determined that the marriage ceremony had not been legal. Hall wed billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch in April 2016.

In addition to being the father of several children, Jagger has five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He and Hamrick were first seen showing romantic affection with each other in public in June 2014, three months after the suicide of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, who was Jagger's partner since 2001. Hamrick reportedly met Jagger in Tokyo in February 2014, when the Rolling Stones after performed a concert there.

An unnamed source told The Sun: “Mick’s relationship with Melanie works for both of them. Melanie is very American and doesn’t want to move to London, even though they’ve been seeing each other regularly over a long period of time now. Mick likes the arrangement they have and doesn’t want to be in another formal relationship. But the most important thing is how much he loves his children and he has great relations with them. He will support and love this child. The plan is for Melanie to move out of New York and be based in LA, where Mick spends a lot of time, or Connecticut where she knows people."

The source added, "In reality, Melanie was coming toward the end of her career as a ballet dancer but has now had to give it up even earlier than planned. Her friends had already begun to notice she had been acting in a different way and hadn’t been going to certain classes. Mick really respects the fact that she has always been very low key and discreet about their relationship. There’s trust there. She has told her bosses and they understood. She has always been a maternal person and can’t wait for the next chapter of her life as a mum. Melanie is very excited to become a mum and thinks Mick is the most amazing man she’s ever met.”

Jagger isn't the only member of the Rolling Stones to become a father at an advanced age. On May 30, 2016, the day before he turned 69, Rolling Stones lead guitarist Ronnie Wood became the father of twin daughters with his third wife, Sally, whom he married in 2012. Wood has four other children from two previous marriages.
