BMW is going to change the way drivers and cars interact.
The German brand has detailed its new BMW HoloActive Touch technology, which is has presented in its i Inside Future sculpture at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The HoloActive Touch tech aims to alter the way we interact with our car's infotainment system that builds on last year's BMW i Vision Future Interaction concept car.
However, this year BMW has gone a step further by integrating head-up display technology, gesture controls and touchscreen functionality with a new interface.
The interface consists of a free-floating virtual display which is projected above the centre console where the user can control navigation, infotainment and communication functions.
BMW plans for the system to be operated by finger movements with the car giving a vibration to provide confirmation of the commands acceptance.
The new technology looks to revolutionise the interior of a car as autonomous technologies become more advanced and more widespread, along with simplifying the layout of the cabin with the removal of buttons and screens.
