Motorbike rider caught speeding at 200km/h near NSW Central Coast

A 27-year-old man was allegedly caught travelling 200km/h - 140km/h over the speed limit - on the Pacific Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

NSW Police said officers from the Brisbane Water Traffic and Highway Command were patrolling at Somersby when they saw a motorbike travelling at 108km/h in a 60km/h zone just before 3pm.

"Officers attempted to stop the bike, however it accelerated away at 200km/h. A short time later, police located the bike and spoke to the driver," NSW police said in a statement.

The man was fined more than $2300, had his motorbike confiscated for three months and his driver's licence was suspended for six months.

He is expected to appear at Hornsby Local Court later this month, charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, which carries a $2350 fine, and dangerous driving.
