Updated

Melbourne: An 18-year-old man will face court on Thursday after a couple returned home to find an intruder in their bed.

Police arrested the 18-year-old on Wednesday and charged him with burglary, criminal damage, assault with a weapon and threats to inflict serious injury over the break-in on December 29.

CCTV footage shows the alleged intruder sleeping in the couple's bed.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Ringwood Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The man allegedly pulled a knife on Mel Christensen when she returned to the Donvale home with her husband, Tony, last Thursday to find the intruder in their bed.

He said there were others in the house and when Mr Christensen went to search for them, the man grabbed his wife and held a knife to her throat, police say.

The intruder had been dubbed a modern-day Goldilocks by Victoria Police after he dragged the couple's mattress into the living room and fell asleep under a doona.
