Rod Culleton in scuffle outside Perth court

He was involved in an altercation outside Perth Magistrates Court when potential One Nation candidate Anthony Fels tried to serve him with a creditors' petition.

Senator Culleton quit One Nation in December and is fighting a bankruptcy court ruling that threatens to end his political career.

The 52-year-old senator was declared bankrupt in the Federal Court last month and faces expulsion from the Senate as part of a High Court challenge to his eligibility, brought by the Turnbull government last year.

Justice Michael Barker granted a 21-day stay in the Federal Court bankruptcy proceedings last month - in which the Senator infamously walked out of the hearing - but he was back in the magistrates court on Tuesday for a hearing involving former associates Frank Bertola and Bruce Bell.

Senator Culleton had attended court in an attempt to file violence restraining orders against them.

WA police confirmed officers were investigating the scuffle and a spokeswoman for Senator Culleton said the other person involved in the altercation was known to his office.

"He was leaving court as all this unfolded," she told Fairfax Media.

"As he left, some people were trying to serve him papers of some sort."

She said there had been "a bit of an ambush and the Senator has fallen to the ground and injured himself. The witness statements are being taken."

She said Mr Fels had claimed to be serving the papers on behalf of one of the subjects of the VRO.

Mr Fels told Fairfax Media Senator Culleton "was going nuts".

"He was lying on the pavement saying he'd hurt his leg but I never assaulted anyone; he just fell over," he said.

"I haven't done anything wrong; I just served the documents on him."

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson told the Seven Network she was not impressed with the incident and distanced herself from Mr Fels.

"It was nothing to do with One Nation, it was a civil matter," she told the network.

Senator Hanson said no candidates for One Nation had been endorsed yet because the party was still in the process of registering to contest the West Australian state election.
