Flood Warning for the Ord River

Issued at 10:42 am WST on Thursday 5 January 2017
Flood Warning Number: 3

A trough of low pressure extends from the inland Pilbara through to a tropical
low over the Kimberley. The tropical low is likely to move slowly southwest
through the west Kimberley during the week and into the Pilbara over the
weekend.

Rainfall recorded for the 48 hours to 9am Thursday in the lower areas of the
Ord River catchment include:
Mount Rob 207 mm
Diggers Rest 154 mm
Wyndham Airport 137 mm

Ord River upstream of Lake Argyle:
River rises are being observed in the catchment during the past two days. River
rises and areas of flooding are expected to continue during Thursday into
Friday.

Ord River downstream of Lake Argyle:
River rises are being observed in the catchment during the past two days. River
rises and areas of flooding are expected to continue during Thursday into
Friday.

Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and
be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers
need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel
plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and
velocity.
