Flood Warning for the West Kimberley District

Flood Warning Number: 2

A trough of low pressure extends from the inland Pilbara through to a tropical
low over the Kimberley. The tropical low is likely to move slowly southwest
through the west Kimberley during the week and into the Pilbara over the
weekend.

For the 24 hours to 9 am Wednesday, widespread rainfall totals of 100 mm have
been recorded with isolated totals up to 146 mm have been recorded in West
Kimberley catchments.

Additional heavy rainfall is forecast associated with the passage of the the
low through the Kimberley. For the 24 hours to 9 am Thursday, widespread
rainfall totals of 50 mm to 150 mm with isolated totals up to 250 mm are
forecast for the West Kimberley catchments.

Notable recorded rainfall totals include:
Charnley River - 146 mm
Kimberley Downs - 117 mm
Dales Yard - 113 mm

West Kimberley District:
Significant stream rise and areas of flooding are being observed and are
expected to continue to develop in the following catchments overnight Thursday
into Friday. Catchments at risk include:

Prince Regent River
Isdell River
Lennard River
Cape Leveque Coast

Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and
be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers
need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel
plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and
velocity.
